Question MBX-6 Gearing... - 11.06.2008, 11:45 AM

I am going to run my MBX-6 with the stock gearing. I will be using a Medusa 36-60 2000 along with my Neu 4s 5000mAh packs. What gearing should I use? I was told by Tony Screws to use 16t, does that sound right? I thought I should start with a 15t pinion. Any thoughts? I'd hate to buy 14, 15 and 16 pinions and only use one of them.

Thanks!

Aw go ahead and buy a bunch of them.

I have 9t through 15t mod1 pinions. I like having options.

I run 4s on that same motor in my buggy and I run a 15T. Lately I have been thinking of gearing up slightly though.

In my MBX-6 conversion I started out with 14T running the stock spur gear.
I'm running the Neu 1512 2.5D (2050KV) by the way..
This winter i'll be racing and most likely will use the 16T pinion. I'll be getting just over 40mph with that setup. I stepped up to the 16T because the Neu didn't like to gear low(14T) and was running a little on the hot side. Now the temps are a little more desireable, while still leaving my MMM temps at about 120F MAX.

I agree w/what everybody has said...14-16t is a good place to start and adjust to the track and or number of cells being used. I run a 16/46 on my mbx-5 on 5s

1. MBX-6 T8 1900KV, RX8 ON 4S
2. MBX-5T 1520, MMM ON 5S
3. MBX-5 ONROAD CONVERSION 1515, MMM ON 5S
4. MRX-3 ON ROAD CONVERSION 1512, MMM ON 6S
5. TEN T 2650 T8, MMP ON 3S

Really?

I'm running a 12t with a 2/D.

I could probably stand to go down a tooth or two.

I'm like macr0w,
I have 9t through 24t mod1 pinions. I like having options (heat kills) and sometimes your buddies need one so it nice to have some for others just incase..

Nothing!.. Hahahahaaa..

Could you guys who have offered up pinion suggestions for the X6 with a 2000KV motor aslo tell me your motor temps. I've run 17, 16 & 15 on my Medusa 36-60-2Kv with 5 S & temps are on the high side (150-170) after 10 to 15 minutes track time. I was going to try 14 next. Did I start way too high for 5S?

Have you run the 9T much? I find that anything below 12T seems to wear faster. Makes sense since it sees more revs for a given speed, but wondering if the tooth angle has anything to do with it. Tooth counts that low tend to "fan out" more than the higher counts...

I finally got to race my MBX-6 this weekend. I went with the 16t pinion and it worked flawlessly. Temps were around 170 before I cut holes in the body. After holes it was around 140. MBX-6 = lots of fun. I can't believe how this buggy feels compared to my 808 and mp777 WC.

What KV is your motor again?

I ran out at The Farm2 this past weekend, which is one of the biggest tracks around.

After 10 minutes of hard running track time I was coming off at about 140 degrees on the motor and about 124 was the highest I saw on the speed control.

My motor is a Neu 1512/2/D/F with a MMMv3 and a 12t pinion. It's an awesome combo.

I might get less wheel spin with a larger pinion but the temps are perfect.

I am running the Medusa 2000kv 60mm motor, mamba max with a fan and holes in the case, stock MBX-6 gearing with 16t pinion and a 4s Neu 5000mAh pack.
