Feigao 9L on 2S - 03.17.2010, 01:42 AM

looking at a new motor for the slash. ATM my 4600 motor gets too hot whatever i gear it. There seems to be alot of talk about the Feigao 9L in a slash, but only on 3s. I plan to only run 2S.

I did some calculations on the speed calculator, with a 40t revo mod1 spur & 15t mod1 pinion i'd get an average speed of around 35mph. That speed sounds great for what i want to do, general bashing. I have the 4600 setup with similar speed & its a handful.

However im not sure how well this will do on 2S. I watched rcsammy's youtube clip of his slash with 3s, geared 40/13. That things went hard & wheelied on demand. Im kinda hoping i can pull a start-off wheelie at least with 40/15 & 2S.

I figured i should look at an L size can, considering the slash comes with a 550 brushed motor. Thats what i notice with alot of slashers using 540 sized motors & then having heat issues. LMK what you think, your if youve ever used a feigao 9L on 2S. Cheers...

Kv is a bit low for 2s, but I'm sure you can get decent speed with gearing, and the motor should be able to handle it pretty easy. 35mph isn't bad, and should be enough to pull wheelies if you can get enough grip... that's the hard part with a slash.

righto, i may go with the 7L if that be the case. Same kv as VXL motor but alot more torque. I want to run mod1 gearing, does anyone know if a 10t pinion will fit with the revo 40t spur, or too small of a pinion??

A 7l will draw some juice, I did that in a rustler. I also ran a 7s in a rustler, massive power but it worked the batts extra hard. If you go with a 7l make sure you have a good lipo, 30c min 500mah.

12/40 is the minimum for mod1 gearing, and yea go for the 8l not the 7l.

Thanks guys, i did some quick calculations with an 8L. a 40/15 (7.27:1 FDR) will give me ~37mph. 21,000rpm. Does that ratio & rpm sound a little low for the 8L? Not sure how relevant this is, but calc. axle torque is 1.28ft-lbs. Im sure if i set start power high (i have MMP), & no punch control i should be able to wheelie. Im not interested in mid throttle wheelies, just something i can muck around with on the jumps & a little tarmac action....
