D8 Conversion - 11.29.2008, 08:13 PM

Hey All, I've run it a couple of days now & can say it is a great car to convert. Heres what it is:
-Neu 1512 3Df (1700Kv)
-Locally made Motor Mount (RCM style)
-Losi Conversion battery tray (modified)
-MMMv3
-5S Lipo (3300mAh)
-Kyosho 46t spur/ 17t pinion
-HB Longer rear shocks

Very nice. Are the blue springs stiffer than the grey's? I'm going to try mine with the whites up front and the greys in the rear and try thicker oil. If I can ever get the buggy running.

Blade98000: The car feels heavier on the track than my MBX6 but I have a 2000Kv motor in the X6 verses a 1700Kv in the D8. On the scale it's just 2 oz heavier than the X6. The D8 is VERY stable & handles great (I did add longer rear shocks). My X6 is great but the D8 is easier to drive fast (very forgiving). I don't own the Losi but I did drive a 2.0 (nitro) last week & felt it was a great improvement over the first version (which I have owned). The guy who's 2.0 I drove asked me today if I would put togeather a D8 conversion for him (he drove mine).

maneba: I got the mount from a guy who had built one for himself. I don't think he's ready to start producing them so we will leave that to Monster Mike. I'm sure Mike will have something that will work soon (if not already). I just did not want to wait.

FG101C: yes the blues are stiffer.

To get the Losi tray in I had to:

-cut about 1/4 inch off the back of the little platform that the ESC goes on.
-I slightly lengthened 2 of the motor mount holes in the chassis with the dremmal(slightly= less that 1mm)
-I drilled & counter sunk 1 additional hole in the chassis for the "middle" tray mounting hole.

The tray is secured buy 4 4mm flatheads from the bottom up (1 in front,1 in the middle & 2 in the back.

In order to make the body fit better I dremaled off 2mm from the bottom of each of the stand-off mounts on the bottom of the tray & filed down the top of the rear 2 mud guard mounting points. Body fits perfect with a 5S 3300 pack in it. The RX is in the battery box. Everything to the rear of the battery box was cut off of the radio tray leaving only the battery box & steering servo mount.

Here is a pic of the bottom of the chassis. The 1 hole I drilled is the one in the lower center closest to the pluged flywheel hole.

I will also note that the Kyosho spur gear required me to modify the top plate and it was difficult to fit onto the D8's center diff cup.

I'm do not know if the hellfire mount will fit or not but I love the car. I've run it a bunch of days now on 2 very different tracks (we have a high speed out door track at our club & have just started to go to our local winter track which is covered, tight & very technical). The car works great on both tracks. So far I have had one big brakeage, I hit a PVC pipe very hard & bent a lower front hinge pin and cracked the back half of the front diff case. The total cost for the parts to fix it was around $6.00 (ya, parts are very inexpensive).
