gearing tip for e-revo with 8xl? - 11.08.2008, 12:12 PM

I have an feigao 8xl motor and a mm esc runing on 4s lipo in my e.revo !
Whitch gearing woud be best for offroad bashing ? right now i'm use 16/68 gearing and that doesent make it go faster than stock ! But the motor and esc gets hot after 20min bashing.

try something like 20/68. those xl motors get hot regardless. i installed a fan on mine and it works like a charm. im running 24/68 on a 7xl . my 7xl was a pretty cool running motor from the get go for some reason.
what are the temps to the esc and motor after 20 mins?

i don't know exactly :) i didn't have a temp-gun with me at the time. but would quess about 55-60 degres celsius !

o and would a mm esc handle the medusa 36-70-2000kv motors ? they are better than the feigao xl's right ?

gear up around 40mph and put a fan on it. I have a messed up feigao 10L that would hit 200*F in about 2 mins so I installed a 80mmx10mm fan over it and it now tops out at 150*F (right where it needs to be) So if the 10L was working right(I think one of the windings have been hit by a screw) it would stay ice cold. Newegg sells a 60x10mm fan for like 7 or 8 bucks(worth getting for the feigao motors)

If you dont mind a fan your feigao will give great performance.
I was running a 7xl of a 80amp mgmesc and it(the esc) would hit 160* tops so I am surprised to here that the mm is getting so hot (I think the novak fan will bolt right up to the mm to help it cool too)
