a good reason to remove the reverse shift. - 11.21.2008, 08:51 AM

well after the 4-5 packs on my V3 i went for some off-road bashing. the revo handles the rutts well i must say. however the gods werent looking down on me as i lined up a nice set of hazards for the revo to tackle. as i rounded a bend with a smallish bump under 1/4 throttle the car lets out a god awful screech then a grinding noise and then lurches forward and locks itself to the spot. i blip the throttle and sounds like someone dropped crushed rocks into the gearbox. wife gives "me the look of "cant you take your car without killling something"on her face. guess what, the reverse was engaged with no help from the tx rocker switch. i had heard warnings that the reverse gears were very weak and low and behold. i guess a combination of alot of bumps and perhaps some noisy air where i was running was to blame. FOC here i come.

Gears. - 11.21.2008, 09:42 AM

All the more reason to install metal gears and pack the tranny with some kind of high speed bearing grease so there is no drifting of the gears to cause such a terrible sound. Sorry for your loss, but that is how we learn what not to do, right??? I hope you can get it back together quickly and get back to having fun. If your quest is for more power then the MFR's design, then we have to improve the drivetrain in order to avoid such disasters. Brushless systems give quite a bit more kick on take off then nitros do, hence we need more beef in our tranny's, drive shafts, Diff's, and axles. Just my opinion

yeah i have done the FOC and my god!!! it has freed up so much torque. will still have to put some steel FOC gears though as i bought the plastic FOC out of haste and desperation locally. is a distinct whine from the tranny i guess a product of the FOC, is greased very well. long live the e-revo.
