Need help choosing a motor for big tire crt.5 bashing! - 11.25.2008, 11:19 PM

I currently have (but have not run yet) mikes chassis on an e-crt.5 with the VXL motor and an MM. I have two 3s 5000 packs to run it with.

I only bash (street/grass/dirt) with 1/8 buggy wheels. I also have a set of blazer SST tires (about 5 inches tall and 2.5 inches wide...about the same size as an M2k) that I would like to run.

Which motor and what gears should I choose to run on 1/8 tires (and the m2k' size offroad tires?)

I only have 3s packs to use... I have a rustler I think im going to buy a cheap used VXL esc off ebay for, that way I can sell it as a RTR vxl rustler instead of just a roller (gives me a reason to buy a new motor :) )

There is the "crap can" feigao look alike L can motors for like 29 bucks... will that be sufficient for me? As long as it stays together I dont care if it gets warm..if it burns up I wont fell too bad being only 29 bucks. How about a medusa (cost?). If I do the imitation Feigao I would probably do a 9L or 10L to get the most torque to turn the big tires.

I was thinking about starting with an 11/12/13 tooth pinion and maybe a couple extra's (evens or odds depending on the lowest tooth count I start with).

Also I would like 40-50 mph speed which I dont think should be an issue on 3s (hence the wanting to go with a lower KV motor so i have the torque)

Any ideas are appreciated!

Thanks
Mike

yeap , the feigao 10 l would be good , i use this setup on my crt.5 with geolander tires and rcm extended chassis , and i think it goes 38 - 40+ mph , i can drive for about 30 - 35 minuted without it overheating with the 18t pnion and stock spur

My rcm e-crt.5 with 2.2 truck tires runs on 3S with a Medusa 50 x 3300. It's crazy powerful and has very good top speed. After 10 packs I have yet to get the motor over 100F. The MM on the other hand is running kind of hot at around 150F. I'm working on settings for the MM to get the temps down.

E-CRT.5 Monster - RCM chassis, MM/Medusa 50x3300/3s, truck tires, 1/8 shocks
E-CRT.5 Stock - Sidewinder/4600/2s, buggy tires
E-8ight - Tekin RX8 2000kv/4S
E-8ight T- Tekin RX8 1700kv/5S
