On a mission to find the batteries i want... if they exist. - 12.03.2008, 12:35 AM

hey chaps,

being the nutcase i am with my cars and toys in general i am looking for some serious powered Li-Pos.

i currently did the dewalt trick with my a123 cells, i must say there is only so much punch a 5s2p 4600Mah has before you get used to it. not only that the weight issue is another matter.

i am chasing ideally a 6s2p 8000 mAh setup upwards with hard cases. everyone sems to sell them with the soft heat shrink or the hard cases are rated too low.

where to find such a setup, cost is not an issue for me. logisitics however are another matter.

nutcase... ( no relation to nick case, i wish. )

PersonallyI have a feeling that a decent 5000mah 25c 6s lipo will easily beat the 5s2p a123 setup you are currently using. Plus it will weigh less.

I may suggest a pair of trakpower 3s 5400 lipos. About the best bet for a hardcase that size. Or 3 of the 5000 enerland 2s packs.

For what it worth I run a pair of 3s 5400 Venom in my E-Revo that have held of great for me over the last year! They have a hard plastic cover over the top bottom and ends but the side are just wrapped in the battery cover. I can shoot you over a link if your interested ??

yeah mate that venom link would be great.

i am in the search for some seriously punchy batteries and run time to boot. the current 5s2p a123 give me just over 30 mins runtime with some moderate half throttle runs combined with some stupid high speed runs, jumps and do-nut action.

i guess the compromise here is charge time also, as the li-pos take ages to charge compared with the a123s.

so based on your guys input the highest mAh hard cased batts are 5000/5500...?

Here is the Link mate: go to the bottom of the page..

http://www.venom-group.com/storeitem...hium%20Polymer

P.S.
These will take about 50 minuets @ 5 amps and then they will trickle charge for another 45-55 minuets just incase you were wondering what your looking charge time!?!..

There are cheaper lipo’s that are also good (Zippy) half the price of the these here:

But if you want the best bang for your buck then review this page!! (Mike has all the BEST!)..

Hope that helps Sir..

Have a great one

Shaun.

hey shaun,

mate those links helped me alot. i know it seems a bit of a noob question but i wonder if you could buy cases and put them around the li-po packs to stop them getting pierced.

i like to bash the hell out of my gear with care though not silly wall and kerb smashes. so while the heat shrink gear would cut it, i dont think my driving habits would.

thanks again.

well have made the foray into a pair of 5s1p 30c 5000 mah zippys. now to wait for the shipping which is always the hard part. so can you guys tell me what power i can expect compared to my humble 5s2p 4600 mah a123 cells? would it be murder on the truck running them in parrallel or pure idiocy? i got some more parallel cables in case.

this will be the litmus test to decide if i kep the li-po or the a123s.

thanks chaps.

well the 5s1p 5000mAh battery packs arrived today, both of them. firstly i cant believe the weight difference even with 5s 123 vs the 5s lipo. the lipos seemed heavy at first then comapred to running 5s2p 123, they are 60% of the weight. i am so glad not having to run 2p anymore. it would be insane but would be risky because the cells are so high.

the power!!!!...even with 50% punch control... damn i even started slipping the clutch which i had to tighten. pick a rev and blip the throttle and the revo front is instantly skyward. where has this car been all my life. this is truly insane, the madness hasnt started yet but when it wears off, i see some 8000 or even 10000 mAh packs coming in the pipeline.

thanks again tdc and guys for the pointers. :P
