The snow is here!!! RC snow blower time!!! - 12.20.2008, 08:11 AM

Yup, thats right. We got 16 inches last night, and the idea dawned on me at 9:30 pm while shovelling our driveway. I drew up some stuff and came up with a 1/4ih scale model to my own snowblower. It will be attachable to my e-revo and stampede. I plan on using a high torque 380 sized motor to drive the pick-up blades and a ducted fand for blowing the snow out the shute. I pland to run the motors off a small lipo battery. The one question I have is for the ducted fan do I want 6 blades or 3?? And mght i have to build an 8 cell 2/3a pack for power instead??? Thanks in advance, Im really looking forward to doing this project!!!

I like the idea, but I think you'll find that you need a lot more power. Even with such a small blower. Think 550 size motor for the throwing part, and the smallest fan you can find that will accept that size motor. This 90mm unit would be OK. For the auger part, I'd go with a 540, maybe a crawler motor, but with a gear reduction. Like this gearbox.

Hope this helps! I can't wait to see some progress.

thnx. new design now. 540 motor drives a paddled shaft that throws the snow. The paddles will be mounted on a shaft that will have a beveled pinion on the non motor side. That will drive the pick-up screw thing in front. Im doing a cardboard model first...

Good idea doing the CB model first. I did that when I made an air intake box for my car; and it came out great because I knew all of the measurements were correct.

I'd like to make the full scale sno-blower an RC and run it from in the warm house. It seems like it wouldn't be real hard.
