mod a light into my mini fridge - 12.24.2008, 05:14 AM

hey guys my little fridge that i have in my room has no light in it. so at night time when i open it i cant see anything!!

it really isnt a huge deal but theres been a couple times where it would have been nice to have.

i plan on taking this to college and putting it in my room so i thought id be cool to put a light in there.

now how would i do this?

im sure i could open it up and find some pos neg cables that would power up the light but would that mean that it would ALWAYS be on? and if so would that be bad? how does a real fridge light work? is it all complicated with sensors and crap?

im pretty confident in my soldering, taking apart things-putting them back togetherness.

so i think i could do this....

i tried to find a mod on youtube and google but i really didnt know what to put in the search

mod light for fridge
putting a light into a fridge
mini fridge light
how to light fridge

idk.

i didnt come up with anything

thanks for any help or whatever you guys could throw atme!

happy holidays!

It is just a micro switch that is released when the door opens... and hence the light comes on :)

Yeah, the light would keep it warm inside the fridge even though the door would be shut.

Just use one of Holmes Hobbies Manly Dig Swtches, that should work.

Sink it and seal it in the frame.

OR you could just do it all by remote control.....open the door AND turn on the light.

The easiest way to do it would be battery powered. You could wire something up so that the door activates a switch...

Or just put a little light in with a switch on the exterior of the fridge.

I think I got a switch in the back room or the garage that would work. Could be a few other places too. LOL I'm 98% sure its still here. It a contact sensitive one similar but different from what RCshocker showed you. I think it was for a dishwasher some of the older fridges have them. Round button that sticks out in the door frame. Push it in and see if the light goes out. You can use it and and some LEDs a wall wart or batteries. Upgrade to some of the Superbright LED to show you which ones the Light beer. Get it?

PM me an address and I will send it over light speed.
