hydraulic brakes vs cable brakes

Are there any advantages to running hydraulic brakes instead of cable brakes? I've seen hydraulic brakes primarily on 1/5 scale models. I also noticed they are sometimes mounted on each wheel vs the center shaft. Are there any advantages to mounting the brakes on each wheel vs the center shaft?

on each wheel would be more precise than on the shaft cuz of gear play, but 4 brakes would be heavier than 1 or 2

I think it is more about not going through the diff and having a degree of diff action on the breaking...

hydraulic braking is the the créme de la créme of braking, way to many parts to make it worth while on a 1/8th. Master cylinder and brake rotors weigh a good 1lb alone. They are necessary on 1/5 to stop fast. Going 90mph into a turn driving a 25lb car you need to stop fast and evenly or its a $500 repair. The 4 or even 2 front, 1 center rear mecanical is for the budget racer (me). It also takes hours to get them set up right to brake how you want, and then hours after each race to fix them again. Tedious stuff

From the information I came across I was under the impression that once you had them set there was very little maintenance involved compared to a cable system.

I suppose it depends on ones definition of "very little maintenance". I suppose it isnt as bad as the 2 or 4 mechanicals as the lines do stretch throwing it out of wack more. Bleeding them, pads wear differently, have to take the wheels off to adjust. My definition of very little is using the motor brake. Set it electronically on the ESC and boom never any more to do.
