Firmware upgrade bricked my mamba? - 12.14.2008, 02:25 PM

I finally got around to setting up my brand new mamba max. I plugged it in, it prompted me for a firmware update. As soon as I did it, the ESC would not arm. I set auto lipo and I hear the 2 beeps (2s), but after that , the red light just stays on, it never gives the arming confirmation tone.

So what I do is drop it down a few version. Now it arms but it wont move. As soon as I give it throttle, I get a high pitch squeal . I can even see the red/white/black wires move, but the car wont budge. I see the pinion "tweak" a little, but thats it.

Is this a common issue when people update their mamba max (not monster?) Is there anything I can do?

check your motor wires! I have had one pesky wire that doesn't like to stay soldered into the bullet and when it comes apart it makes a horrible squealling sound and stops moving.

I've seen what you describe (motor wires moving and motor shaft vibrate) when the ESC was set to brushed mode and connected to a brushless motor. As soon as I switched it back to brushless mode it was fine.

E-revo that's the first thing I checked, it was a long soldering learning curve for me and it does seem like it's a bad solder.

What is resetting the radio endpoints? I am using a spektrum 3.0. Are you talking about re synching?

I will check the brushed vs. brushless settings..

make sure your endpoints are set to 100% not higher. but I don't think the endpoints would be the problem. Re syncing the radio and esc might help but doubt that too. Re-binding won't do anything, your obviously getting the signal through. If it's not the brushed/brushless mode and all solder joints are good I would try another motor if you have one or at least make sure your motor spins by hand.

another thing to mention is that the wires get very hot when trying to give it throttle.

It may be a bad motor (locked/shattered rotor) how long are the screws holding your motor, they maybe shorting out the windings inside.

Ahhhhhh!!! brushed mode only sends power to the red and black wires, nothing to the white. Essentially acting like a bad solder joint or disconnected wire!
