Inside the Neu 1512

Here is my Neu 1512/2D/F motor which I purchased in March 2008. It was getting a lot of slop in the front bearing so I decided to open it up. Here are some pictures of the parts inside the motor. Rotor, spacers, bearings, etc. The rear bearing is flanged and front is not. Rear bearing 5x11x5 flanged, front bearing 5x11x4. As you can see the front bearing was covered in crud and if you look at the picture closely you can see a small ridge forming on the bearing from the force of the shaft pushing on it, almost looks like a flange as well. You can see all the spacers Neu uses to get the rotor centered just right (hand built). I was really surprised by how small the rotor is, amazing the power this thing puts out.

why are the Neus fins shaved ? new stuff ? I shll not comment further

Can you measure your rotor? is it 19mm in diameter? and the magnet length?
The Castle version has 19mm rotor and I am just curious how similar (or how different) the two versions are.

jayjay283, yeah I shaved down the fins for more pinion clearence (chassis brace).

himalaya, I already put the motor back together, but I will open it back up and measure the rotor. Remember this is a 1512, which is shorter than the Castle Motor that is currently out right now (1515 size).

IIRC, the 2650 Castle motor is 1512 size, while the 2200 Castle motor is a 1515 size.

Suposedly cc just altered the magnet length to achieve the different kv. I am wondering if the cans for the 2650 and 2200 are the same length?

Technically slightly longer the Neu 1512/1Y is 2,750kv which makes the Castle 2650kv about 1512.5

No they are different - I can measure them tonight but CC site says 67mm vs 75mm

I thought the longer Castle can length was to allow room for the motor coil wire to noodle wire junction (similar to their Cm36 motors), but the "guts" were the same dimension-wise.

I'm going by KV and wind - Patrick said that he was only building 1Y motors and changing the rotor lenth for different KV's.

If 2200 = 1.5 then 2200/2650*1.5 = 1.245

Also Neu quotes the 1512 1Y at 2750 i.e. 2750/2650*1.2 = 1.245

Either PDC has the wrong KV or they tweaked the rotor lenth - My guess is the later such that 6s was under 60k...

i,e, 2750 * 3.7 * 6 = 61050
vs 2650 * 3.7 *6 = 58830

himalaya, the rotor measures 18mm by 30mm.

Sounds like the Castle version has bit thicker rotor while ramaining similar KV value.
