Which 2.4GHz radio system - 01.20.2009, 05:20 PM

I'm looking for a decent 2.4GHz radio system that is least expensive as possible. All I need are the basic adjustments really, but most importantly, I would like glitch free operation and at least 300-400 feet of range.

One option is the Airtronics MX-3 and another is the the Futaba 3PM, but it's $50 more. Is one better than the other for my purpose?

Or could I get away with the Losi radio system that comes with a lot of their rtrs. Although it looks pretty cheap, if people are getting good results, I may have to consider it an option.

Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

Spektrum baby - I happend to have one for sale cheap to ;)

The basic Losi one works fine but has no end points so can burn out servo's over time...

Depending on your time frame, Traxxas will be releasing their 2.4GHz radio with the E-Revo BLE. I'm sure the eBay chop shops will have them on there. But I bet they'll be pretty basic though (no EPA or other bells and whistles).

Trx AM radios aren't the best, but they are my favorite feeling radio. The handle fits perfectly IMO.

Other than that, do you want to use the same radio on multiple r/c's? If so, multiple model memory might be something to consider. The Spektrum DX3s is pretty feature rich and has a 10 model memory IIRC.

had the Spectrum DX3, hated it (had issues with rang and cutting out)...and got a 3PM. LOVE the 3pm!

I have the Airtronics MX-3 FHSS... It feels great in the hand (big difference between the traxxas stock radio)... Lots of rang, very responsive and it has a nice set of features that will keep me happy for a while...
I have not found any issues with it yet. I think it makes a nice option.

You can get them on ebay for a good price too..
