I am planning on running a 80mm 2000kv medusa on 4s in a truggy that weighs in around 8lbs. I know that the motor is overkill for this truck, but it's what I've got and the wife isn't gonna stand for another motor. According to BrianG's calc, it is geared for about 38mph. I'll be running the smallest pinion I can and I can only go up 1 tooth on the spur.

My question is, any issues with running a way oversized motor other than trying to keep the front wheels on the ground?

What are the specs on the Lipos and what ESC are you running?

No problems with running an oversize motor except being able to control it. I think controlling it, first requires learning to control your finger. LOL

I want a 80mm Medusa myself. When can we get one?

Better be sure you have some tough drive train though.

Haven't got the lipos yet and I'll be using a MMM. I'm looking at using 2 zippy 2s 4000 25/30C, but I'm concerned about amp draw, so I may have to shell out for 2s neu 5000 25/50C. I'm going to be racing so I'm looking strictly at hard case lipos, so much higher mah is out of the question.

I got my 80mm in Dec, preordered in Oct. though. I've been using it in a 16lb e-aftershock and it is awesome. No problems moving that truck.

I'm running mugen mbx5 diffs, so I'm hoping they'll hold up to the power, keeping my fingers crossed though.

My only concern would be that you might need to turn down the punch control. My 60mm brushless motor on my 1/8th buggy can break the steel CVD's right in half due to the sheer torque. I cant imagine what an 80mm motor might do. I'm thinking you are taking out the clutch assembly like everyone else and are going to run direct drive without any type of slipper clutch. Thats a lot of stress on the drivetrain in general.

So other than this and bold tires it shouldnt be a problem.

Just received mine today. I'll be trying it out sometime tomorrow on
an Lst2. It doesn't look big to me but if it's powerful I'll be happy.
