25C 5000 Neu vs 35C 8400 Maxamps

So i was able to compare the 25C 2S neuenergy 5000 packs vs the 35C 2S 8400 Maxamps today on the track. Interestingly punch was very similar in the MMM 8Xl powered Emax 18/68. Yes run times were longer on the 8400's - about 45 mins vs 30 mins however what surprised me was that the neu packs got pretty warm - 120 vs 85 for the maxamps packs.
MA may have something with these new packs.
I had puffed several of their 8000 25C packs and had a warranty so they sent me the 8400's and they are a completely different animal. Yes they are expensive but i wanted to share my experience on my track today.

What's the price difference between the MA and Neu though? Those 35C MA cells are probably only 20-25C, but still impressive that they finally have a pack that can out perform a Neu pack.

Good to hear that maxamps can provide a lipo that can keep up with an 8xl...

I am guessing the neu packs are lighter? A heavier battery does kill performance...

I would like to see the 8400 pack maintain 3.5v under a 294 amp load. I would also like to see the wires, connector and tabs hold up to that.

IIRC, a true rc 4s 8000 10c pack can handle an 8xl in a revo...

And the ma packs are 229 each, and the neu packs are 120 max each... Even with ma bulk discount (and you still have to buy 1000-1500 bucks worth of stuff IIRC) you still pay almost double.

I have noticed that the enerland cells do get warm during use, my 4500 6s 30c pack gets up over 120f. And they do not seem to work as well when they are under 100f either...

Another swing and miss for Maxamps here. Nice to know that a 300 amps rated pack can handle an 8xl though, makes me feel better about them.

125 amps is a bit close IMO to what the xl can pull under load. I think the 6000 enerland cells would be a better choice for 4s useage in a heavier truck. My trakpower lipos in the erevo with a 1515 1.5d were about on the edge performance wise, but that truck was geared for 50mph.

4s setups in Mt are really not such a great idea. 5-6s works much better and open up battery choice quite a bit. Plus the lower kv (1500-1600) motors do run cooler with the same over gearing than 4s does.

It gets interesting when you have an erevo and an emaxx with 2200Kv and 8xl respectively. the same batts dont fit in both trucks. i am shooting for
30-45 mins of cool running racing. i have found that in the erevo with the 2200 on 6S zippys nothing is getting hot now after 30 mins FINALLY a setup that is perfect.

For the emaxx the 8400's run great and the weight is fine and they have a 3 year warranty if they puff. this is the first maxamps battery ive run in the maxx that didnt get very warm and puff. well see how they last over time.

i was just surprised to see the well regarded neu get pretty warm - i thought they would run cool. hopefully this wont end their life early. i can also run them in the revo.

Any battery will get warmer in an E-REVO vs an E-MAXX. Air can freely flow over the packs in the Maxx compared to the nearly sealed compartments in the Revo.

I too am glad MA is finally making some worthy packs! They prolly got sick of replacing packs that weren't holding up! Now they need to get there prices in check with the rest of the market! Lipos have dropped a lot in the last year, specifically the last six months.

Is the maxamps 8400 a 2S2P pack? If thats the case then you have 2 cells in parallel against a single 5000mah cell. Paralleling the cells really helps for the spikes and helps to maintain voltage. Thats probably why the maxamps pack is running cooler. I have some of the first 10C 8000mah truerc packs and they will run a 7XL up to about 40mph in my emaxx and stay ice cold doing it.

I'm facing an odd dilema. My new Flux is way too fast on 6S, so I NEED to buy some 2S packs to use in it. I'd like to buy made in the USA products, but as far as I know, Maxamps and Neu are the only choices, correct? And with Neu, the most MAH I can get is about 5100 in a 2S pack. I've pretty much ruled out Maxamps. Any suggestions for a better pack than the Neu 5100's that's U.S. made? Trying to stimulate the economy here!!

Neu and MaxAmps aren't MADE in the USA, they are only assembled here. I don't think there are any packs that the cells are actually made here in the US.

You could just get a lower kv motor to run 6s instead of having to buy new packs.

Buy the polyquest 6000 25c packs from hobby city. That will be your best bet for a 2s pack that will fit that will not have a 2p cell config. You could go with a pair of 3300 4s packs and wire them in parallel... You are not likely to find a USA made lipo product.

Nothing lipo is made in the US, and after taking apart most brands I seriously doubt any are even assembled in the US. I am pretty sure the enerland packs are all assembled at the factory. FP supposedly have better matching techniques. Enerland packs are all put together the same way.

Nothing lipo is made in the US, and after taking apart most brands I seriously doubt any are even assembled in the US. I am pretty sure the enerland packs are all assembled at the factory. FP supposedly have better matching techniques. Enerland packs are all put together the same way.

I had figured there wasnt a US cell manufacture - I was more referring to US assembled.

I had been looking at those PQ's too. Pretty good value, it appears.

Yep, I run them in my erevo and they do fine. About the best bet I have found for capacity and discharge without going to a 2p config. Are you a platinum member on HC?
