I put this in the Projext-X forum because it is somewhat extraordinary.

It started life as a Craftsman Professional 24V Hammerdrill. I treated it well for a few years and then I went and got it stuck in a chunk of Al with a 1/2" bit in the chuck... *poof*

So anyways I couldn't get a new FET module for it so I decided I would go the extra mile. I finished making the motor mount/adapter plates yesterday. It turned out well; normally when I drill this many holes by hand they don't line up like they're supposed to...

It's a KB45 10XL, Turnigy Plush 80A ESC, and I'll use my FP 6s 5000 LiPo.

I just need to get the 12T 32P 6mm bore pinion and figure out how/where to mount the servo tester throttle. The battery will attach to the bottom just like the original, albeit in a different case.

Uh, Ben just sent me this link in aim, HOLY CRAP, now attach to a rc car, and you can drill like poles and walls and such. lol

Yeah, tell me about it! It's gonna be funny when my drill beeps when I plug in a battery... TD57 should put a drill on his Battle Truck!

Have you found the 32p pinion yet? I just got some novak 5mm bore 32p pinions and they look to made out of an easy to drill material... Not sure if sdp sells 32p with 6mm bore. How are you going to rig up a control button?

I would mount the servo tester throttle on the grip- make it thumb controlled like some safety catches on handguns (have the knob sticking through a hole in the side).

Very cool though- I re-cycled my old nimh cells and fitted them into a hacked up cordless drill, much more powerful and more runtime with the 10 4300mah cells compared to 10 1400mah nicads...

I haven't found the pinion yet. SDP-SI doesn't have them, neither does McMaster, and Kershaw would probably want $25 bucks for 1. I'm thinking since 5mm/32P pinions are abundant I might just have to find a motor that has a 5mm shaft and a 30mm bolt pattern and is no more than 45mm in diameter... Now, where would I find one of those???

That is where I was thinking of putting it. Right above the left grip (since I am right handed) with some sort of sprung lever for control. I want the throttle to return to neutral when I let off, so I wont use just the potentiometer knob as the control. I'll be putting a few extra caps on the ESC to make sure it starts smoothly while in a workpiece.

I did that also with an old drill of mine. The extra punch is amazing, and the runtime- no comparison. It did take longer to charge since the "1 hour" charger only put out 1.2 amps!

Like I said, it would be easy to drill out a novak pinion, they are about 10 bucks. Can you get the existing pinion off the old motor, drill it out and drill/tap a set screw hole in it?

No, the old motor has the pinion machined into the shaft. I was thinking about sending Neu an email to see if I could get a 1515/3.5Y with a 22xx bolt pattern. (30mm dia. X 4mm)

300 dollar drill motor... I like it! I had a kb45 motor shaft turned dowm to 5mm by my machinist. I still have the holder we made to do the job. If you wanted to send it to me I could have it done. Can't imagine it costing more than 20 bucks.

Hey I was gonna use the 1515/1Y that I have but- 1) It's 2200 kV which means wayyy too fast on 6s and not enough power* on 4s. 2) I would need to make another mount with a 25mm/3mm pattern for it. Not so bad, except I'm lazy. I did enjoy using my bandsaw with that brand-new, 1/2" wide, 18 TPI, bi-metal blade, though.

I will see if I can find someone local who can turn down the shaft on the KB45. Who knows, I may try and do it myself.

It was not too difficult to turn the shaft down, but we made a pvc slide over sleeve to go over the magnet. That gave us something to chuck onto with the lathe, and also shielded the lathe from the magnetic force of the magnet. My machinist did not want to magnetize his chuck, and I do not blame him...

I can get a pic of the coupler/collar if it will help...
