Thoughts... RC4wd.com's Heavy Duty R2 transmission in E-maxx?? -

Actually its a t-maxx. My old s-maxx is getting tired of being nitro and i want to covert it to brushless. I've considered either just putting a new e-maxx transmission in it or using rc4wd's HD R2 trans. They said it can take that much power. The gear ratio has me confused. Their site says it can use a 10:1 to a 30:1 ratio. Whats the trans ratio for the new e-maxx. Nevertheless, if i did use this trans i would make my own moutings so i know that. What are your thoughts on this idea?? Also, can someone tell me if the all metal gear set for e-maxx trans on rc4wd's site is for the old or new e-maxx?? If they were for the new one, i would consider using them to beef up an e-maxx trans instead.
The smaxx will not easily fit the new emaxx tranny. To do so you would need the new emaxx chassis, trans and center driveshafts. You can put an old emaxx tranny in there, but they are not the best stock, need steel idlers an the gmaxx single speed kit is good too but costs 70 bucks...
Thr stock ratio for the new tranny is 1.83:1 so the r2 tranny would be way low geared, so your truck would not go very fast. I would stick to the emaxx tranny if I were you.
The tranny gears on the 2nd link is for the old emaxx(3906). I have a brand new set as spare in case my single conversion goes bad. The gears are made from 6061 aluminum.

Is indeed. If you beef up the gears, and tweak the slipper, its fine. The R2 tranny is for rockcrawling, very low gearing- I havent heard too many good things about the quality of the gears in those crawler trannies either.
Best to stick to the Emaxx trannies if you are wanting to do a straightforward conversion like that- the new emaxx tranny is beefy as standard, and shouldnt be too hard to mount.
I have 6 sets of their EMaxx tranny gears and they seem to hold up pretty well. I also have the steel idler gears installed in all of my tranny's for added strength. Hay Lito your PM box is full. I was trying to send you a thank you for a heads up.
Hey whats up Lito. I just wanted to stop in to say thanks for the link to that bolt place. I just recieved a package from them and it is great stuff. 1,000 pieces of 12.9 grade 3mm screws for my R/C toys. Nice clean harware to. No burrs, or issues of any kind to worry about. This stuff is really nice. With shipping it cost me like $110 for all of it and should last me for quite a while. I will be using this stuff over the next several months and I will post up what I think of it after using it for a while. I also just received a couple sets of replacement nitride blades for my allen tools as well to keep everything nice and tight to avoid any unwanted stripping. Thanks for the heads up Chief.
Not a problem Jerry. I'm glad you like that place. I buy all my screws from them and I've been very satisfied with their service that's why I don't have a problem recommending them to anyone.
By the way, pm box is cleared.
