twin force crawler with revo shafts - 03.05.2009, 10:22 AM

here is my twin force that i am working on. anyone out there who crawls with one of these will appreciate the sturdiness of this drivetrain.

i am going to keep it stock width for now, but i will most likely switch to two short sides and convert the front to CVD's for some better steering. i am going to read up on the upgrade thread to see which cvd is best for 2 short sides.

well, started the 4 link system last night. i got the center pumpkin mounts and got them all mocked up, but i wont be using them to start. the front one has a hole drilled in it, and that is not a hole i am going to use. i haven't even cut down the mounts to where i want them. i just wanted them mounted so that i can start mocking up the fitment once i move to that mounting system. for now i am mounted a reversed 4 link system since the pumpkins are not in the center of the axles in stock length.

I am going to run the reversed 4 link system with both of the axles ends of the links on the outside of the axles. and the upper links will be in the center of the chassis. i am going to look for some short Axial stand-offs to get the links to the center of the chassis. the rod in the pic was just for testing purposes.

i got the yotachump lockers installed as well. they are kyosho ST-RR helical diff gears. everything went together perfectly, except the holding pins on the diff side had to be pounded in with a hammer and punch to get them in all the way. i had to take one apart after hammering it together because i forgot the damn bearing, tedious to say the least.

one concern when running this reversed style of 4link system is that the motor plate is directly in the way of the inner links. i will have to get around this by moving some thing around, or even removing the plate all together. i have some 3mm red CF and some 3.5 mm black CF sheet that i can use to make a nice shiny new center plate.

and for the last issue. the wheelbase. it is a shade under 16" right around 15.5-15.75". i got the revo shafts installed on the center gear shaft, and looks like they are going to need to be lengthened by removing the blue rubber sleeves. that was not unexpected, since most of you guys have to do that. I will probably get some of the shock covers to put over them once i get the correct length, since i will be running in lots of sand in Florida.

anyone know what the max usable extension of the revo shafts?

i also have an idea for some serious power in the wheels. this motor is vey low RPM/KV so i tihnk with a 3 or 4 cell lipo i could still get some decent wheel speed and have all the low end grunt i can handle. its a 5mm shaft, so i was thinking about changing the spur gear to a 1/8th mod1 gear so i could get a pinion for it. I will have to fabricate a new motor mount plate to go in place of the stock one, which wont be too difficult. the hardest part will be making the mount adjustable because the motor mounts with a 3 hole setup, not 2 like most motors. any ideas you guys have on that would be welcome.
i think the motor gets about 570 rpm/V by doing 11,400/20volts. does that sound right?
