just got DSM!!! need help with antenna mounting.. - 03.03.2009, 12:58 PM

"""going from FM to DSM will be the biggest jump since brushless"""

if i had a dollar every time i heard that i would have had this DX2.0 a long time ago. anyways, i am used to having 28 inches of wire for the FM system. now that i have the DSM i am unsure of where/how to run the antenna wires.

SP3000 has 8 inches of wire and going on a TC4 Drifter
SP3001 has 2 inches of wire and going on a Hyper 8 Buggy

does anyone have any tips on mounting these 2 recievers and where/how to use the antenna tube? should i superglue the tube once it is in place? should i leave a little slack near the reciever? can i use the regular ol tube like i had with my FM system?

any help is greatly appreciated!!!

I just use the old tube system for mine. It's a solid core wire so it don't like sharp bends.

well on my TC4, the tube hole is a bit weird. i have to put the wire down through the chassis, out the bottom, then back up through this tube hole. there is a 180* angle when all said and done. there is no way around this either, or my wire would drag on the ground. will this be ok?

Sounds good, if you have the radio's manual it should give some routing instructions and minimum ant wire lengths.

the radio manual i have. not the receivers manuals. i guess i can look online. but either way, they wont give me specific for my buggy or TC4.

I just cut a piece of antenna tube @ 3.6" (min. antenna length) and use whatever wire is needed for the 3000 (cut off extra). For the little guys I just let the wire stick up out of the receiver with no tube or use as much tube as it needs (don't cut wire on it). The wire should be more than 2" I think.

this is what i though also. but i couldnt find any info on the 3000 with the 8 inch wire, so i just put it through a tube and ran the TC4 50 yards down the street and worked like a dream. the 3001 has the 2 inch and i am not sure whats up with that. havent tried anything yet.

so your saying i can cut off the extra wire. but then you said i cant. i am confused..

The minimum ant wire length is 3.6", so if the one receiver has only 2", it is already too short. The other one with 8" wire can be cut down to 3.6" minimum.

that is very strange.. both look to be new but i am sure they are just well taken care of... so is the antenna wire the same as an FM wire? might be a stupid question but i have to ask. or do i need special DSM wire.

I am not sure about the wire type, looks like standard antenna wire to me. Strip a little at the end to be sure.

I run mine without an antenna tube, gives a cleaner look and you dont lose any range

this is what i figured. maybe i can run the wire neatly around the chassis and use a 1 inch tube to finish it off. otherwise, just zip tie it to something to get the clean look.

Leave the wire as it comes - best not to cut it - it is best to mount vertically but have mounted horizonatlly in the past and results were ok.

the wires on the new controllers (bar dsm2) are much shorter than the older sr3000

so the 3001 is the dsm2? is this what your saying? the 3001 is like 2 inches long. the 3000 is like 8 inches long.
