I dont believe how freaking lucky I am.... - 03.24.2009, 08:01 PM

I must by one LUCKY guy.

I was out driving my rusty today and temps average 125 for motor and 145 for esc. Well, as always during a bash, the truck does a roll over (like at 5mph). While flipping it over I decide I had better check temps, just in case. When I check temps, I notice my mm esc smoking a little bit I immediately unplugged my batt. The mm esc read 330 and the medusa motor read 220. I almost took a double step when I saw those temps!!! After letting everything cool down, I decided to see if by chance if everything worked. To my surprise, the esc and motor when back to operating (at normal temps) as if nothing had ever happened. The only thing I can think of that would cause this issue was a binded drive train...I think some derbis got stuck because everything is smooth now.

I am clueless and dumbfounded at the same time. lol

This had happened to one of my mm's aswell. What smoked was one of the caps. You might want to check yours.

Well, how long were you driving slowly for?

Pretty sure that most esc's are least efficient at lower throttle inputs which could be your heat issue..

secondly, are you running a 75mhz? i know that mine screws with my temp gun so if you were holding both in the same hand it could have been a mis-read.

I was running in the 40mhp range...I was just turning around when I flipped. I'm using a spektrum tx/rx. I'm not sure if they affect temp guns, but I know the mm esc was more than hot enough to burn me.

If one of your caps are shot you'll need to check for cracks on the top of your caps.

And it still runs? You might have smoked an fet. Ive heard of people doing this and the esc was still working fine after it had happened. I wish this would have happened to my cc hydra 120 esc when I was running it in my DD emaxx. It ran flawless for 5 runs or so with mech brakes but then when I was running in the grass on the 6th or 7th run it just randomly stopped. I didnt think much of it and I checked for binding and there was none. So I plugged it back in and it went up in smoke and melted leads...
