kyosho buggy, how to mount battery trays -

hey guys,
been looking around this site, and its been a long search on a good way to mount a battery tray to the Kyosho buggy chassis. the chassis gets so narrow at the front that its hard to mount a tray securely to the chassis.
can anyone give me some pics of their kyosho battery tray setup so that i can try to get some ideas for my own tray?
i want to get one of mikes trays, probably the longer tray, as to make sure i can fit all lengths of lipos in there.
my main issue with fitting it is that is wont be able to sit flush on the bottom of the chassis. part of it will need to go over the side guard. this will require somewhere around .25" of spacers when i mount a tray to the chassis.
my other question...
how exactly will a tray be mounted? will I be able to thread some 3 or 4mm screws into the bottom of the tray? or the other way around and thread some holes into the chassis?
You can mill the bottom of the tray so that the nuts or the sideguard wil fit inside the tray if you know what I mean. Anyway just check the bottom of that link, pics are worth a 1000 words :)
Looks like the side bolts are just going into the beveled area so that the tray sits flush, and it is secured using two others chassis holes, more towards the middle. He uses the larger holes he made where he can fit spacers.
No idea on how thick it is sorry...
