First Run: 80a HW Rustler -
03.27.2009, 08:09 PM
I finally got around to mounting the large Hobby Wing 80A ESC in my Rustler. I left all the settings at default and did some test passes with a Medusa 36-60-2000 on 2 x 2S 4000 mAh lightmax 25C hardcase lipos.
Initial thoughts are that this ESC is smooth and powerful, but I need to get a bit more time in before say for sure. The spur is a 40T and I ran a 20T RCM mod1 pinion.
I only got about 10 minutes of run time, but most of it was at a high rate of speed just trying to keep it pointed straight. No crashes, no cartwheels, no jumps, just a large open parking lot zipping from end to end.
The run ended when the diff exploded. I'm not really sure what happened, the car was at the other end of the lot and just stopped going when I got there everything looked fine, but the car wouldn't move. I already have a steel idler gear, but had stock non-VXL diff. I say had becasue all thats left inside it is stripped teeth.
Up until the diff blew up it seemed smooth and temps were all in check. I had a VXL diff kit in the TRX spare parts bin so I should be up and running tomorrow, but I think rain is in the forcast.
I'll post some pics in a bit. And some more thoughts on the HW 80A ESC after I have some more time with it.
