Is my Savage X conversion worthy? - 04.01.2009, 06:33 PM

Lately i have really been wanting to do a conversion. i have had a lot in mind, but never really got around to converting something. right now I am looking at a Savage X roller. it has a new spur gear, HS 645Mg servo, and is in fairly good shape. i would like to do a conversion using HW 150A esc and a KB-45 motor off towerhobbies.

i was planning on locking the truck in 2nd gear, but now i'm thinking i might be better off just buying the Flux. the Flux comes with an ALL metal single speed, and a metal spur, along with the right gearing, battery trays, motor mount, and the MMM combo (blur). my question is, is this truck worth converting, or should i sell it and look into converting something else? Or even sell it and buy a Flux? I don't have much to spend, and although i have been doing brushless for a while, never a conversion. Just looking for your thoughts/if my truck could handle a setup on 5s or maybe even 6s.

In my opinion if you are willing to spend as much as a to buy a flux Id use that money otherwise... For that amount of cash you can buy that km 5b or a s25 roller with decent a motor, esc, batts combo that you'd be happy with and still have cash leftover.

MMM is probably the best esc for the price.. No sending it to east jabumblefuck for a software update, the customer service is the best in the buisness, And you would end up with a MMM anyway after the HW eventually lets go.

ideally i'd love the MMM. That puts me about $80 further into the hole... which is fine, but it has to be 100% worth it.

i need to debate what i want to do. Then i have the KB45 which is nice I am assuming? But with no job, these high prices make me want to go back to the Rustler...

Thats also an option. 'sorry if i sound snooty' BB, what makes you think that a person would turn to a mmm when there hw150 fails which is unlikely if you dont mess with the timing until they fix that problem. I know its a good esc now that most of the bugs are worked out but wait until hw updates there firmware. Should be a good fight...

I hear you ryan, but as of now- the bugs on the hw are not worked out, therefore its more prone to failing in comparison to the MMM which has had its bugs worked out (beleive me i know .
And at the same time, why would you buy a controller that is known to have problems, same thing happened to the v1 MMM's. people stopped buying them because of the horror stories- which probably saved them hassle because alot of them did fail. Why not go with a tried and true method that is reliable.

True, one reason I want one over the MMM is the price and the capabilities of it. Ive only heard of the hw150's failing because of people adjusting lower or the timing to "0". Another reason to get one is to balance the truck if the lipos/lipo is placed on one side of the chassis. If you know what I mean...

haha I'm just being snarky...

Seriously, if anything the MMM can be had for $150 or less. Hard to see any reason to get something else.

The MMM? It has a castle link (included) which is just a usb adapter to program and update. Easy as anything.

The HW? No idea.

Thanks all for the replies. the conversion is on hold. Will probably wait until i get a truggy to do a conversion, i'd much rather convert one of those and save my Savage for the desert (where there is now all outlet around)
