Shot a full auto machine gun (video) - 04.29.2009, 11:07 AM

My dad, a couple of my brothers, and I went shooting at the range a couple days ago. We rented an M16 and an MP5 to go along with a .45 and a 9mm that we brought. I had never shot full auto before, so that was pretty cool.

I shot some video and threw it on YouTube.

The slow-mo parts at the beginning were created with Vegas, but the slow-mo parts toward the end (with the music) were done by my Sony HDR-SR11. The lighting in there was terrible though, so they didn't turn out very well. I'm pretty happy with the video anyway, so ....

Enjoy.

Be sure to watch it in "HD". (Also, there are some cool still shots at the end pulled from the video, so don't miss them by shutting it off early. )

Thank you for murdering the piss out of Osama bin Laden! That made me feel good to know I'm not the only one!!

And for making me jealous on the MP5 shots! That has to be my favorite auto! I'm in the process now of trying to get my hands on one! Its time to strap up and prepare for war within our own nation...

The only reason we were shooting at the range was to rent the full-auto guns. Typically we shoot outdoors.

We'll be shooting outdoors sometime in the next week or so, and I should be able to get some good (well-lit) slow-motion shots of stuff getting destroyed. Very excited. :-)

Looks like a lot of fun, something I'll never be able to do saddly (well, not legally anyway )

On a side note though, couldnt you have stood a bit closer, Im not sure shooting at targets a massive 10 feet away was fair on you guys really....

Yeah, we wanted them even closer, but they wouldn't let us. 10 yards was the minimum. lol

We were just shooting for the sake of shooting, not for testing our aim at a distance. When we shoot outside (99% of the time), we're at a decent distance from our targets. We'll occasionally even have distance accuracy contests.

On Saturday we're going to shoot a TV. Good times.

Thats freaken awesome. I love the slo-mo. I hope to be able to shoot a full-auto gun some day. I only have experience with pistols and a couple rifles that are all semi-auto. Looking forward to a video of the destruction of a TV.

I'm lucky - used to have a Class III dealer thats a good friend, and I've been able to shoot his toys a lot. M60s, M16s, Thompson's, MP5s, HKs of various descriptions and calibers, Reisings, MP40s etc. My favorite has been his American 180 and a fully supressed MP5. Was cool to be able to take ear protection off and shoot - the only sound was the working of the action and the tinkle of 9mm brass on the concrete.

He moved about 3yrs ago and started medical school and I lost touch. I don't know if he's maintained his license or not. He had a surprising amount of sales/turnover.

If you're up for it try to attend one of the big shoots like Knob Creek, an unbelievable experience -
