Hot MMM - 05.07.2009, 07:26 PM

Hey guys, question for you all running MMM's. (alot of you)
I have a Maxx (3905) weighs about 12lbs. (5500grams).

I only bash, and my MMM must be running too hot, the fan kicks in everytime I go and run. Maybe 10 minutes in I will bring it over to me and The fan will run for about 30 seconds then shutoff cause it has cooled off a bit. EVERYTIME.
My motor runs great 125f tops and batts 100f at the most after 30 minutes but my MMM fan always runs. I dont want to damage the ESC by always running it at the point of almost thermalling (which did happen when a piece of a bush caught in the fan and it couldnt spin anymore).

I have great runtime and batteries arent being stressed so I do not know why the ESC is so heated. 30% punch, Normal Timing, no Drag brake. I have no rolling resistance except the COG torque from the medusa.
The one thing I can think of is that my servo is supposedly a current hog. Read on it that you need a robust power supply because it can pull up to 5amp. (dont hold me to it) It is a Power-HD 9660mg.

Look at my sig for motor and batteries. Any Tips?

The fan coming on is not a necessarily a bad thing. It is doing what it is designed to do which is cool the ESC when it needs to. The ESC will shut off if it gets too hot and it looks like your setup is fine. I really wouldn't let it stress you. My fan comes on every time I run but I expect it running through thick grass and what not.

^^ Yeah you are in SoCal, after all. As long as the thermal protection circuit is working then you're OK. Thermalling multiple times doesn't do any more damage.

I know its a plastic case and because of this it won't pick up much heat, but what was the MMM's temp? Did you test it? What temp does the MMM cut off at?
