MGM 4032-3s for HV truggy?

Hey guys, got a fairly simple question- would it work? What would be my limitations? Planned setup would be a medusa 70mm in the 800-1100kv range, MGM 4032 and 10s geared for about 36mph. Only reason for this esc is I can get a great deal on a new one. If I do this, it will be in a ~11lb truggy. Here are a few spec on the esc:
40a cont
50a burst
7-32 cells (2s-10s lipo)

Hmmm... that's a tough one. Just to throw some numbers out there: 100-120amps continuous is the norm for a truggy on 4s, with a kv in the low 2000s. If you stick to the lower range of that, 100amps, then you can figure that 10s @ 40amps should yield the same performance. But since current is lower there will be less losses overall (P=I^2*R), so it should work. The ESC may need a fan to keep temps acceptable but overall I think it should work

I have gathered several Eagletree log files with my HV Truggy running a 1100kv Neu 1515 with a Jazz 55-10-32 Esc powered by 9s1p - 10s1p A123 (27-30V average). Average amp draw hovers between 15-22A (400-600W). Peak amps might be as low as 50-65A but could also reach 100-120A. Really depends on how much grip you have, your driving style, tires mounted, battery powering your setup, gearing. My Esc is underrated with 55A cont and 65A burst since it also provides peak Amps between 100-120A. I had to mount a heatsink to keep it cool. Since then i had no heat issues.

With a low gearing around 36mph you might see Amp Peaks around 50-65A. 10s1p A123 can be compared with 8s lipo. 9s1p A123 with 7s lipo. From a continouus point of view your ESC is up to the job. 50A burst is on the low side and would suffice for a buggy. For a truggy it might not suffice.

Thanks guys. If it helps, I'll be running badlands on street and hard dirt, with an occasional gravel run.

Badlands are relative heavy tires compared to race tires (Crimefighter, Bowties lpr). They require more power while accelerating (more rotating mass) and to maintain top speed. You could contact MGM if they would recommend this ESC for your project. I would say they will tell you that you require at least an MGM 9032.

I had a 9032 and a 1100kv 1515 in a revo on 8S. Does 45mph easy, and did pull 70-80A+ on peaks. 50A seems a bit low.

You could do it I think, 50A at 35V is still 1700+W. Enough for a trug, but really pushing the controller. Comes down to how well you gear it and how aggressive you drive it. I would get a slipperential to tame down some of the power spikes. I would be very careful with it until you get everything dialed in. IDK how conservative those MGMs are rated. Mine was 110A burst iirc, and I never pushed it as it was not a cheap controller.

Doing all that I think it would be fine (esp w/ the slip diff)

Thanks Finnster. I may opt for a LT-10S controller, or one of the hobbycity 80a HV boat controllers, but mod it to use a heatsink. We will see how this project unfolds.

Yeah, that would be an easier route. Sometimes you end up spending a dollar to save a dime.
