So does anyone have info or pictures of the fan that's being designed for the stubby shaft?

You know the stubby shaft on the end of the 70mm and the 80mm motors?

No, but honestly, if the setup needs that fan, it probably could do better with a larger motor. I suppose some special setups could use it to good effect, but I can see people using the fanned version as an excuse to use a smaller motor than it should be.

FYI: all the Medusa motors will start coming this way, not just the big ones.

Brian, Brian,........You're a fan hater.

You're the only guy I know that cut the fan out of his Monster Mamba right after he got it. LOL

Think Longevity here. Proper setup with the motor being cooled that extra amount. It's gonna live longer. Especially People like TexasP, who live in the hotter parts of the south.

I'm thinking they're gonna make these motors a kit that makes them much like a Plettenberg Big Maxx with fan.

I wrote them an email enquiring about it. We'll see what they say.

As far as i am concerned the fan on the motor allows me to run a closed body, which keeps things cleaner. I do like my plett maxx w/fan. It has no issues on 4s in the emaxx, and stays cool. I need to pull the fan off and see what happens then...

Honestly, I couldn't see myself using a fan on the Medusa period. Closed up vents mean little circulation.

i to am against fans, i dont need no cooling holes in my stuff and they run all below 140 woot, but i can see that fan tearing up some stuff lol

yeah, fans are for the birds. they just break and cause more trouble than they are worth ( 10 cents. ) if its set up right you will never need them

I made a flimsy fan out of duct tape, and one out of alum tape. The duct tape one is kinda like the foam fans with the water sprayer at wally world. Just don't get the shaft real hot or the tape adhesive will goo up and the tape will slip off.

I also like the look of the VXL cover,it almost looks stock.

lol, what makes you think I hate fans?

I've said this before, but here goes: Some people use fans to keep their system just barely cool enough to run. These are the people that blow ESCs when the fan fails for whatever reason and blame the ESC or manufacturer even though they were obviously using it out of spec.

If your setup runs fine without a fan, but just choose to use it to supplement cooling, then that's fine.

That said, my current MMM V3s have fans because the warranty is void if I remove it. But honestly, once the ESC proves itself to be stable over a long time, I will be removing that as well. I figure most defects show themselves within a couple months at worst, so any failures beyong that are my fault anyway, so no need for a warranty.

And I full well know the effects of heat to the longevity of any component. I just make sure gearing is such that nothing ever exceeds 30-40 above ambient, which is fine for all but the hottest days (and I wouldn't be outside anyway).

I got an email response from Medusa today.

Here's what they had to say:

James,

Yes, the rear shaft is for an optional fan.

We have not started the design of the 36mm fan yet for we are finishing up the fan for the 28mm motors.

There are no pictures as of yet.

Check back in a couple of months and see where we are at with it.

put me down as a 3rd, if i though a fan would last i may run one but i perfer to set my stuff up to run cool without a fan

i havent ever used a fan on my mamba monster or my rx8
