Neu Connectors? - 07.24.2009, 02:58 PM

I'm looking to convert all my trucks over to the same connectors if possible. It seems that the Castle 6.5mm's are a popular choice, but my LHS doesn't stock them. It seems that for high current applications, these or even the Traxxas High Current ends are ok. Bullets are better I'm sure. I really don't care. But one thing for sure is, I can't stand Deans connectors. I really like Sermo's, but they aren't rated for that kind of power.

So... has anyone seen the connectors that Neu is selling? They have some in 8mm and the 6mm. The pictures on their site are weird though. It looks like the pix for the 6 & 8 are the same picture, and show two different sizes. DUH! That Neu site is god awful in it's design and layout if you ask me.

But the price for 10 isn't too bad I guess. Slightly more per piece then the CC 6.5's. But if the 8mm's would be THAT much better, it would be worth it.

I actually run 5.5mm gold bullets. They are great and handle 150amps with no problem.

Yes, use 5.5mm bullets. I just recently switched to 6.5mm Castle bullets, and damn, they are nearly impossible to get off sometimes, they have so much holding resistance. They do seem to be loosening up a tad though, so I curious as to how they will hold with use and time. They do stay stone cold, noticeably over Deans (at least old ones), the Deans that got replaced felt slightly warm after a run.

But who knows, Deans might still be the ultimate connector, because who knows how long bullets last compared to Deans; and for most applications Deans really do the job great. I can see 2 years from now 12s lipo setups being the new '6s setup', so currents at those voltage levels will never exceed 50 amps or so, and Deans are just easier to connect and disconnect, and they could provide more than enough current handling at point.

EC3 and similar connectors are good too.
As well as these, Hyperion's new bullet connectors, they look great:

My beef with Deans are that sometimes they are TOO HARD to get apart. I don't know what to do about making them a touch looser. Not LOOSE, but I've actually yanked the soldered wires from the poles before. Granted.. you shouldn't be able to do that! But still sometimes, with certain one, I've got to strain to undo the connection.

And may I say, that with CC 6.5's, after landing a jump, numerous times I've had to reconnect one of my leads in particular, almost all the time. It would jerk itself out. Didn't dig that either.

Sermos/PowerPoles, are my absolute fave. They are easy to solder or crimp, they can be removed easily, and they rarely come unhooked. But I dont' think they make them to handle 150A of current. Actually I think they do, but they are like $23 per connector! I saw them on Ebay under the name of Anderson Power Poles I think. Yikes! My 2nd fave connector is probably the Traxxas High Current. But I'm quite happy with bullets too.

BTW.. those Hyperion connectors look REAL nice! Surely they'll make their way to the US eventually. Muchmore racing has some really nice Euro connectors too, but they aren't easy to find in the US.

Yah, good point Niel... may as well get the Hyperion stuff domestically. Better prices for some stuff as well.

I would like to try them out, I just might.
