Need help programming MGM esc! - 07.19.2009, 12:32 PM

Hi guys,

my friend bought aMGM esc and we cant find how this thing work!
The fact english is not our 1st language dont help, but i understand all the

step by step to setup the parameter, only time we get the motor to spin it was running backward and not smooth at all, like 30%throttle to 100%...if you see what i mean...

He also have the unicard for programming.

I tried to set the parameter for .set limit using transmitter. but it will either run weird or not run at all, with beep-beep-beep sound after a while..

Its on 8S using a battery pack for the receiver, the motor is a castle 2650kv.

i know its not suitable for the voltage, but my friend want to run it anyway hehe

Thx for any tips/help/info we are desperate! lol

Mike

Holy! On 8S! I would really like to see a vid of that while he's blowing up his motor!

Anyway, I can't help you, I'm sorry. I never had a MGM ESC...

Hmmm, 8s on 2650........ dude, don't even try that! The motor will disintegrate instantly, that's 78,000rpm! They are rated for an absolute max of 60,000rpm, that's a little more than just 'not ideal'.

Again, DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS, IT IS NOT A POSSIBILITY THAT IT WILL HAPPEN, NOR A CHANCE, IT IS AS LIKELY TO HAPPEN AS THERE IS A SUN IN THE SKY.

“The modern astrophysical concept that ascribes the sun’s energy to thermonuclear reactions deep in the solar interior is contradicted by nearly every observable aspect of the sun.” —Ralph E. Juergens

Never mind i got it to work. :)

we are going trying it once batteries are charged, again like i said , i know it is absolutly not rated for that, and my friend dont care at all :)

If the motor explode it will make a nice video then... lol

Over_revO check out this thread. Look at the tires on the second page. They may help your speed runs:

Yes, PLEASE make a video! And try to film as good as possible, especially when the smoke and fire comes

Tested it, but it was faster with the mamba monster max on 6S than the MGM on 8S... something isnt right.

ive tried many different programming no succes, i even thought it was running backward with power reduction "on" lol

The EPA is set at max everything look fine , it is connected in serie , im lost, the connector are 6mm, batteries work good, 2X 4S Thunder power 40c 5000mah

Anyone have a clue?

I do not have the newer firmware but this is what I use:

MGM Esc setting:

Car mode <->
light brake
auto timing
reduce rpm
4s li-xx
free wheel
no brake at neutral
no auto correction

I tried those options too, without success..

Can it be the connectors? is it possible to work fine on 4S and hit the LVC on 8S? it was setup for reduce power..?

he used cheap connector (6mm gold or something like that...), but they look like the MP jet 6.0mm (he ordered them...) they are the suggested connector to use in the instructions...

I sent a message to MGM, but last time it took them 3 week to answer...:(

Thx for any help guys!

Ok, we tested the voltage with a multimeter and on 4S its all fine with a single batterie, but on 8S the esc hit the cut-off at WOT....

It was on "power reduction" setting so it just looked slower...
ive set it on cut-off and it hit cut-off very fast...

Batteries are working perfect when tried seperatly...

If anyone have an idea let me know, ive already sent 2 email to MGM and no news after almost a week...

Thx!

Is it the voltage cut off or is it the over current, over voltage or over temp protection? Do you have the com+ module to hook up to computer? You could try race mode to eliminate the current and voltage protection (USE AT YOUR OWN RISK). I do believe that the MGM has a 150,000 rpm limit with two pole motors, which would be a 75,000 rpm limit for a 4-pole.

We tried the race mod and itwas still hitting the lvc.
may be we didnt did it right, but every other change seem to work...

We also tried without the motor plugged in, and voltage drop, but not on 4S...

Heres the programming options:

Right now if we set 8 cell, and lipo 3.20v , the esc beep beep beep when we turn it on, and we cannot make it run,
on automatic it turn on and run fine... but hit the lvc! lol

Its hard to say if its programming or a faulty speed control....

Hi,
I have an TMM16025, and have discover that if individual is below around
3.95V, the controller would not arm and will give a continous beeping sound. But if it is above 4V , the controller will arm correctly. Check if your battery is fully charge or there is a failed cell somewhere in the pack

Hmm maybe the esc is running in reverse? Switching any two wires on the motor will reverse it. Do that and reverse your transmitter. See if that works. But before switching gthings around see if it is faster in reverse then forward.
