killed my 2d, just want opinions - 04.25.2009, 09:06 PM

so was running at my local track we just redid, it was loose as heck, so the motor temps were a little warmer. maybe 160ish, ran about 3 packs through, and on the fourth pack 10 mins in it stopped, i pulled it in and the motor was 300!it desoldered my + wire on the speedo side, that was around 180, it is in a losi 8 geared 12/46 on 4s, this motor is only 3 months old, already emailed neu, just looking for any input on what made this happen? maybe just a defect somewhere? i hooked it back up and it rose in temp real fast just revving it, a little smoke came out the wires were secure, with the grommets and such, plus foam underneath, well im done descibing, let me know what ya think, thanks

I've killed a motor (not a Nue, an XL) by a using a center diff on a Revo with too-thin oil. The diff unloaded a lot and ran the motor to high revs with little load. Maybe this is what happened to you?

Maybe it got just hot enough and the magnets started to go and really fast it got hot and the magnets died completely and the windings shorted....

well the center diff has 10k in it, i took it out and one of the phases is shorted, im wondering if it was like that from the beginning, i always noticed a bit of a "drag" off throttle, and it seems weird because this version is the smooth magnitism one, i dunno, sucks tho lol

What timing were you running? Also, did you check for any binding?

so they emailed back and said that two of the leads had fractured wires, hard to believe since it had the grommets on it and the wires were tied together and supported by foam like my truggy, im starting to think there using this excuse so they dont have to warranty em

That is a pretty common problem with the Neus. I have smoked 3 of them like that. Even if the wires seem secure, they still can flex a little bit causing a couple of strands to fail and then the motor will eventually over heat. Neus are not designed for use in a car.

Neus are great motors, but this issue is a big problem with them for those that race a lot which is why I like the solder post better on the Tekin T8 motors. It would be great if Neu came out with a motor that had solder posts for the car guys.

Same here....overheated 3 Nues with lead wire damage. I love the Neus but I hate sending them in and waiting close to forever to get them back. The verbal spanking is irritating too. I have 2 standard finned Nues and a Tekno Nue that I don't use anymore since I moved over to the Tekins. Now I am considering getting a helicopter or plane just to use the $600 paper weights.

I have a feeling this is what happened to my Neu. What exactly is the best way to prevent this from happening if running them in an ERBE or Truck? Is the solution to simply NOT use Neu's in RC Trucks?? HA!

ERBE: RCM 1/8 Hybrid Diffs, NEU 1515/2.5d/S MMM, 6S, Losi E-XXL CUSTOM, Neu1515 2.5d, MMM, 6s E-SLAYVO PRO ERevo Chassis w/ Pro 3.3 parts, NEU 1512, MMM, 4S.

same here 3 time this has happened to me. there really is no stopping it. support the wires dont support the wires. they will fail. the besr way is to have them bent as soon as the come from the endbell then heatshrink then zip tie them to the can so the dont move. but it will eventually fail. sorry neu but even the 1415 has the same problems

How do you like the Tekin over the Neu motors?
