weight distribution for racing (BL Revo)

I am doing some last minute rebuild on the Revo for the race weekend, and I was going to make a new, lower CoG battery mount. I was going to move it forward, and down, to bring the front/rear weight distribution to around 50/50. I know in the real world 50/50 is ideal, and makes for a very forgiving and predictable ride (ex. Mazda RX8).

But I am just not sure about this... currently the battery is placed right side, far back as it can go.

Is there anyone with some direct experience that can comment on what weight distribution is ideal for a Revo on the track?

I myself am getting ready to do a 3.3 conversion and curious about the very same question ?
What motor mount/tranny have to elected to run with for racing ? I'm undecided weither to just get a RCM motor mount and use the stock tranny with a center diff or go w/a Erevo trans to simplify the conversion ??

i ran my battery up fron on a tray mounted where the right steerig servo went.

according to traxxas the revo is setup about 60/40 with more weight to the rear.
My setup was 50-50 and the truck constantly nose dived off jumps- i dont know if it was weight distribution or what.

left/right balance was spot on also.

My setup is as follows:

1512/3D (1700kv)
6s lipo packs - 4200mah each (HP VX, & HP VX G3's)
Quark 125 - modified
Gmaxx single speed

HERE is a pic from awhile ago.

The current left/right balance is biased to the right side a bit. So if I lower the battery and keep it far back, then the rear of the truck will have the mass down low, and the front will have mass up higher. I am wondering how this will affect the driving feel.


BB16, could the nose diving off a jump be because you don't throttle it right off the peak of the jump?

Looks good, Thats pretty much what I'm thinking. I might go with the stock trans w/a 1/8 scale diff so I can keep F&R servo brakes. Just need to figure out much like yourself the weight balance ?

Sorry, he was using a nitro chassis, so i thought it applied. good luck on your decision

It did apply and I am also.
It was sarcasism my friend, for making my desicion all the harder as to what I was going to do . Sorry for the confusion.
I think the easy cheapest way out for my application will be to use the stock 3.3 trans,I already have a TRX CD installed w/500000wt. Just gonna get a RCM motor mount I reckon and make a battery tray.

I am literally going crazy trying to come up with a lower cg setup, but I can't seem to do it. Each time I think I have it, some component won't be able to fit or be able to mount in the required area. The Quark is the main problem with the short 10ga bat leads coming off one side of it, and the generally larger than normal size/weight of it.

I only have until tomorrow evening to do what I can do before practice in the evening, and that's after me having to drive 200km to the track location. I also was expecting an order to come in from Tower that includes some LPR rims, rpm true track arms, and a few other replacement parts. I sure as hell hope they arrive here tomorrow!

I should have just got the E-Revo chassis....

Same basic set up as the above post. It seemed v/well balanced using the 3905 trans and 2 batts.

Definitely the easiest way. Balance is pretty close as well with these setups.

I did a 2.5 conversion. I used RC-M mount, Tekno tray, tekno rx box, and JB welded the Revo tranny in 2nd. I removed the mechanical brake and made a plate to mount my MMM right there. This way the motor and mmm on the left side countered the battery and electronics on the right side. Front to back wasn't off by much as well. But I also used the 2.5...

I have a couple motors for sale that would scream in a Revo conversion...

The more I'm reading about the conversion in this format the more I'm getting sold on it. I ideally want this truck for the track only so I'm thinking of keeping the F&R servo brakes, useing a CD also. Thanks.

Magman, yes, that is pretty much in perfect balance, left/right and front/rear. I plan to split my 6s packs into 3s packs for one on each side like that... I just didn't have the time or the parts (3s balance plugs) to do so.

That is my truggy/Revo and its very well balanced. I have raced it all season.....love it.
