Hydra HV 180 is using water to cool the ESC, isn't it?
How can i use 2-3 small brushless fans with it? Is it better than water cooling? I can't find water cooling's equipment....
what do you plan on using the ESC in?
they are meant for a boat and are set up for a boat castle link wise.
and unless you void the warranty and fit a heat sink directly to the FET's then you are going to have to use water cooling.
hehe you silly duffa...you put a MMM 2200 in a summit
they arnt ment to go fast

the porthole from the noob world an here has been opened!! that's how i got in.
The main issue you will run into is that the water cooling is bonded directly to all the FETs. And air cooling is very inferior to water cooling. I wouldn't recommend it.

even so...they have no where near enough surface area on the fins to transfer the heat to the air.
water is the best medium for heat transfer i THINK, takes longer to heat up and can carry the heat well.

Water cooling has been covered in a few 1/5 builds- you can run tubing from the esc to a radiator & pump, and that will cool the water & the esc as it circulates. Only issue is the water cooling setup wont be cheap or small, but it would work fine. Just need to use the special fluid that is non-conductive.
Wait for the Phx-ICE-160HV. It's an air-cooled monstrosity. We ran one today on a Neu 2230/1Y at 260A for two minutes. We had to run TWO SETS of 6.5mm bullets, because they kept desoldering themselves. We also had to water cool the motor (big pump driving ice water from a 5 gallon bucket through a cooling jacket on the motor...)
After two minutes of this abuse, the controller reached its over-temp limit and shut down -- but in that time it had devoured 8.6AH of charge from the batteries.
It should handle pretty much ANYTHING you can throw at it.

I dunno, everytime you build a better esc, they produce a dummer noob....
So true. So Patrick, how does it feel to invent better (or rather, worse) noobs?
Will we be able to set up the Phoenix ICE HV controllers for use with a pistol-grip radio? I know you won't warranty it if it isn't used in an aircraft but since when has that stopped us?
All I ever wanted was an honest weeks pay for an honest days work.
