yet another dead esc :( MM this time - 08.23.2009, 04:52 PM

Ok, I am starting to think that Castle is right. I am cursed beyond belief with their escs. To put this into perspective, between me and ben, we have 8 cars, no speed controllers. they are either at castle or on their way. Ben had my mamba max in his slash running on 2s with the red pin removed and a Rx battery. No jumps. just parking lot running. He takes it out to put it back in my crt.5. He turns it on, and it became mute. no beeping, but it lights up, powers the rx through bec, and arms. When throttle or brake is it, the LEDs change accordingly, as if it is working, but nothing happens. To rule out the motor and/or bad soldering, we plug it back into the slash motor. same result. no beeps, no motor movement.

Please don't tell me it's dead. I dont want to wait 2+ months while my MM sits in esc purgatory(AKA castle creations repair dept.) Any clue as to what happened?

haha, esc purgatory.

Make sure you try everything. Try updating/re-updating/downgrading the firmware. That might fix the issue. Maybe there's a problem with the new firmware Running on the MM associated with the MMP.

I just tried every single firmware version, just to make sure. none of them did any difference. I also reset to defaults, no help there either.

Surely I'm the cursed one?

A month ago the screws holding the case together on a MM of mine came undone, and the BEC stopped working. I tried to repair it, no luck.
Thursday at the track, my V1 MMM dies after more than a year of faithful service, 5min. into it (in my buggy). It still had the original (shallow) case, so the BEC inductor had broken up over time from repeated abuses.
Also on Thursday, my 2-week-old 2200 motor decided it didn't like the front endbell screws, so it allowed them to loosen up. The rotor ground into the stator, and the rotor's wrapping material was shredded throughout the motor.
Yesterday (Saturday) I was running a MM4600 combo on 4s 3700mah Lipo with a CCBEC. I dropped from a 20t pinion to 18t to lower the temps (and they lowered by about 30 deg. F). 10mins into the run the truck slowed and I realized there was smoke coming from the motor. Just a minute before it was maybe 110 deg. F.

You ain't got nothing on me . And that's only in the last month... Don't even want to think about all other CC equipment I've killed.

it was 100% consensual I swear! It was running 2s with a 36x50mm 2500kv motor geared lightly. nothing at all was anything near hot.

Lets see here. i think were cursed...

2MMM failing because of the same thing component falling off within an hour of each other in 2 completely different setups

Had a MM blow up in my b4 taking my feigao with it.

then (at the time) the only remaining esc we had between us was a 3rd MMM... that one was ran in the crt.5 and ended up failing...

then the last MM ran fine, i didn nothing to it except re servo tape it into the crt.5. it armed once with beeping then didnt move again....

Ugh.. and yes sitting on the repair floor is esc purgatory

Have you tried hitting it? You'd be surprised how many things you can fix with a bit of physical persuasion.

Sometimes mine will do that if I get in a hurry and plug the RX wires from the esc in backwards. It was arm and everything sometimes and the light blink but it wont do anything. Steering and everything will work also. May be something to just check.
