Revo knuckle ball popping out - 08.18.2009, 09:33 PM

I hear that RPM plastic is softer therefor not a great solution
I found a forum that uses a metal ring to keep plastic from stretching

Is there a better way like true track to keep the rear ball in place ?

Thank u

thank you, yea I saw those, those are cool, can be easily made. I'm on a budget thought and the true tracks are stronger and about the same cost

The stock Traxxas carriers have a metal ring on the back that can be transferred over to the RPM carrier. It's a little tricky to get on but nessasry to prevent your problem.
I have done this swap and have had zero problems and I drive my trucks very hard.
FYI, this still needs to be done w/the True Track

Bondo, what metal ring are you referring to on the traxxas carriers?

Here ya go boys, I found them by accident when swapping parts to RPM last year. The original 2.5 revo carriers didn't have these. Traxxas started updating the carrires with the 3.3 Tmaxx and carried through till now.

Hey, interesting... I just opened my brand new TRX carriers and they do have these metal rings. Yet, I checked the original carriers on the Revo (3.3 as well) and they never had these rings on them.

I am also waiting for an order from Tower that includes the rpm true-track arms... hopefully they work out well. They should be better for popping out as it only has one pillow ball per side, and apparently they made the pillow ball walls thicker.

Yes and the ring still fits,It's a challange getting it on but they do fit.

Looks as if Traxxas may be taking hints from the aftermarket, I have to wonder how much that will help.

My buddy needs to do an upgrade, he might not want the 17mm hexes on the Tekno knuckles- he'd have to buy new wheels.

Any of you guys have opinions on the Golden Horizon aluminum 3905 knuckles? Or is there better stuff available in aluminum?

I would just get the new E-revo 13mm carriers, they have the metal rings, along with the 13mm dia. bearings, and the bearings are also wider as well. They seem like would handle all that you can throw at them, as the older units held up decent.

The carriers with metal rings originally came with the platinum edition revo. Part # is 5334R if you want to buy them.
