Charlotte nc - 09.07.2009, 11:18 PM

Ok guys I just received the go ahead rulling from the wife on making my annual trip to Charlotte, NC for NASCAR raceweek at the Lowes Motor Speedway, and she is making the travel arrangements for me now. I missed out on last years trip due to our move from Brussels to Korea. I will be in Charlotte from 09 - 19/October, and I just booked a pit crew luxury Diamond Tower enclosed suite in turn two for the 300 and the 500 races(& got half price for group rates). The suite comes with closed circuit TV, full buffet, and all you can drink included. Plus we are all going to the "World of Outlaws dirt race on Wed. One of them even lives there and has a 45' luxury motor coach that we are parking right outside the track this year for the whole week. I am really stoked about this one. I know not everyone likes NASCAR, but I find it quite fun being involved from the fan perspective. I usually get a lot of perks because of my VET status.

I kind of started this two years ago in an effort to meet up with some of my old Navy buddies, but we sat in the cheap seats in turn 4 last time. None of them had ever been to a race before, so it was a great time for me to introduce all of them to NASCAR and also re-live some of the old days. We had a blast and the races were just an awesome event for this kind of forum. It is a group of about 12 guys who were all stationed in Holy Loch, Scotland at the Trident submarine refit site from 1985 to 1990, which closed in the mid 90's. It was all good times and we still get along great after all these years. Most of us had not seen or heard from each other in nearly 20 years.

Anyway the reason for my post is that I am curious to know if there are any good R/C tracks or R/C shops that I may be able to visit while I am there, that are not tooooooo far away from the race events. I may even do some driving to Charleston, SC, and Reading, Pa while I am there to visit some more of my old friends. Besides booking some time in a high powered go-kart to do some racing of my own, I would like to spend some time with our R/C hobby as well. So who's out there and what do you have for me. Thanks in advance fellas.

I don't know of anything there but have fun at the race!!! I was at the Watkins Glen race, went last year as well, and I plan on making it a yearly event. NASCAR has the best fans of any pro sport and where else can you bring your own "beverages" to an event!

Yea thanks. I like going to almost any kind of racing event myself. I have been to several racing events around the world from Cali, Atlanta, Charlotte,Pa, the UK, Irland, Germany, but now in my lets say "advanced age" I prefer the more comfortable facilities. Sitting around in the grass has its own appeal, but those days are in the past for me. I love having friends over to watch the racing events on the big screen from the comfort of my LazyBoy loungers now, but once a year is perfect for going to the track if I can afford the trip. Still I now look for whatever luxuries I can squeeze out of the few dollars that I can manage for a few old friends. This time the track is providing the food and the drinks for us, and its all included in the cost of the Luxury suite. Believe me I will post up some photos and a race report when I get back home.

Thanks for the invite Jay, but Chicago is one place I rarely get to these days. We do not have any relitives living in that area of the USA, so not much reason to go there. The main reason I go to Charlotte is because my best friend lives just a few miles from the Speedway so I have a place to stay that costs me $0. That is a big plus. Traveling is by no means cheap, and hotel costs are just rediculous these days. Luckily we get the Gov rates, but still free is so much better. Thanks for stopping by though. Always nice to hear from you.

Carolinas RC in Charlotte. Nicest indoor track ever. http://carolinasrc.com/Webstore/Scripts/default.asp

Charlotte RC Motorsports Park(Formely The Farm 2 where the worlds were held last year)
http://www.charlottercpark.com/

There are literally about 10 tracks within 1.5 hrs of Charlotte it. Those 2 are top notch though and withing 30 minutes of the race track.
