Circuit components. "U" usually means some type if IC chip, "Q" usually refers to a transistor/FET. The number is just an arbitrary count.

The number following the the letter refers to a specific device, each one is numbered.

Yeah, I guess I should have said that number was sequential and unique, and used to match the specific component to a schematic. Arbitrary was the incorrect word, but what I meant it has no meaning to the component spec-wise, just for identification.

I appreciate the comments, I guess this info is not enough to determin what was wrong with the ESC ? I reckon it doesn't really matter, I was just curious and Castle took care of it like the true customer service champions they are.

well when you get a MMM back, take a magnifying glass, find those markings, and you can see the components mentioned. then if they have any markings on them you could try to figure out what each component is

Those U, D, Q, C, R, L, etc markings would be printed on the PCB, not the device. And in a PCB as cramped as the MMM, I bet those markings are under the components, especially the ICs. Caps, diodes, resistors, and other smaller components may have the letter/number next to it.
At any rate, I just looked at an old MMM brains board pic and cannot see any of those device numbers (don't mind the circles/arrow - it came from the BEC mod thread):
So, likely there is a schematic diagram and/or a layout diagram with those letter/number designations on there. Unless you have those documents, figuring out what was replaced will be next to impossible unless you know what part burnt/fell off when you sent it in.

Maybe you could call CC and ask what those parts were?
