Great service(traxxas) - 09.28.2009, 10:09 PM

Well I hope this does not offend anyone, but I have a story to share. Over the last few years and since the boys joined our lives here in Korea last year our E-Maxx collection sure has grown. We have two complete stock E-Maxx trucks and enough spares to build a third. Plus I have my own SuperMaxx trucks as some of you may already know about. Anyway with all of our Maxx trucks we have collected several of the original orange style EVX's. Of course they were great in their day, but technology has come a long way since then. So after my sons hounded me for months about the fact that none of the EVX's are working anymore for one reason or another I finally decided to ship them off to Traxxas for warrenty check ups and repair. None of them were seriously hurt outside of normal wear & tear. I cannot determine exactly what made any of them fail except for maybe one, which was a motor wire short. And yes that was reported when I shipped them to Traxxas. So I sent them in.

The Traxxas tech support checked them out for us and I guess due to the fact that they no longer sell the old style EVX they offered to replace all four of them with the new waterproof EVX2's for a small warrenty fee. Of course I would have to be crazy to turn them down. I had expected that they would do whatever they could to help remedy the stiuation and keep one of their customers happy, but boy was I surprized and very pleased for the outstanding support. After all when I thought about it, we have spent several thousands of US $$$$ on Traxxas equipment over the last few years supporting them, so it was nice to get some back.

That's good service indeed!

I just wonder if maybe you should, you know... ebay 'em before they let out steam, so to speak?

I had to...

Hey, I have an old EVX also! Mine is fried and I've been debating about sending it in or not. I'm pretty sure that it was fried by water, but it could've been something else.

Do you think they'll still charge me the $40 + $5 shipping to replace it? And do you think there is any way they could send me a Marine version of the EVX2, since I'll be using it in a Traxxas Villain?

Or would it just be smarter to buy a used Mamba Max to use in my boat (brushed mode) and perhaps in another truck if I ever get one?

Thanx,
Brijar!!!

Whatever happens I would make the effort to send it in. You never know what may come of it, and what have you got to lose since it is already fried. I do know if they detect water as the culprit they will charge you for the mistake. Still they seem to be pretty good with their warrenty issues.

Alrighty thanks! I'll try to send it in when I get a chance. If they want to charge me $45 to replace it, I may just do that and then turn around and sell it for $60 if I can, or trade for a Mamba Max or similar.

I think the best CS in the business are Traxxas, Castle, and Mike. Not particularly in any order, but those are the best in my opinion.

Well as for the EVX I can tell you that they are no longer sold. So if the warrenty issue is legitimate they will upgrade you to the newer EVX2. My son looked up the EVX2 at Tower Hobby last night and the retail value is like $125. So you can gage for yourself whether it is worth sending in or not.

As for customer service yes RCmonster has always done right by me and is very good. Also Tower Hobby, Castle, UE, Fastlane and even a few others. They all try to do right by their customers, but sometimes people just like to try and take advantage of the whole warrenty status, when they know darn well that they are in the wrong. All I was asking for was to have the 4 EVX's serviced under the regular warrenty issues. It was the Traxxas tech support who offered to do all of the good stuff for me, and I am sure that he had to OK it with someone higher up, before getting the go ahead. I know the EVX2 is not the best ESC on the market, but I am excited for my boys to have even that for their stock trucks. I personally have several high end ESC's for my trucks. I have even collected a few classics along the way, and none of them have been used yet. Schulze 18/97, MMM, Quark 125b, Novak HV Maxx 6.5, and I have a couple MGM's as well. By the end of this year I plan to start testing things out showing my boys what they can do once they learn their way around the anatomy of the R/C truck and track.
