Castle/ Tekin Motor robustness/durability

I'm about to get a new motor..Which motor is more robust/ durable? Castle 1515 or the tekin rx8 motor?

Dimensions and kv ratings are the 2 things I would look at, knowing your application would help?...

To me the difference between Tekin and Castle is power delivery. Castle has more grunt on the bottom end. Tekin is a smooth motor overall. With Tekin you can play around with timing advance/Turbo with the lower kv 4 pole motors. With Castle you need to wear your big boy undies with some shoulder straps.

I believe dimensions wise they are still about the same. I will choose the same kV rating if I go with either of the motor.. This motor will go into my lighweight savage with center diff.

I am going to bash the truck and some light racing. I saw a few videos on how smooth the Tekin motor is ( I have both rx8 and MMM) and really liked it. Im just concerned about the durability/robustness..

Bleh, the current models on sale are indeed very robust generally- early tekin rx8 motors had rotor issues upon release but that has been fixed now, extremely rare to see any rotor failures from either brand. It's not like the olden days of feigaos with their crappy rotors and poor temps, and novak hvmaxx motors with their weedy rotor and 1/8" shafts- the motors from big brands these days are very dependable really, but the rare occasional failure still happens no matter what- good warranty backup is provided in either case so take your pick really.

If you have the Rx8 esc, might as well take advantage of the sensored option and get a tekin motor to match I suppose..

If you're looking for a tekin truggy size 2250kv motor, let me know. I have a brand new one. I need to find a buggy size 2650kv for my current build.

I have the 2250kv T8 (truggy motor) and the castle 2200kv. Ran them in the same truck and the Castle motor always had more go. Not just a little bit but an easily felt amount. Also the Castle motor ran much cooler on same gearing. As a matter of fact I had to drop two teeth on the pinion to make the T8 motor run at similar temps as the Castle motor. By then the power difference was freakin huge.

What I did love about the T8 motor was it's smoothness. Not just when ran with the RX8 but also it felt considerably smoother than the Castle motor when paired up with the Mamba Monster. Smoother takeoffs but also smoother braking and it just feels like the car wanted to coast for longer with the Tekin motor once you back off.

I suppose both motors have their ups and downs but I just love the crazy on tap power of the Castle motor.

The rear bearing on the tekin motor is smaller than the Castle one. Moreover the tekin is vulnerable to the dust at the rear. And the Caste handle more power at same temp.

That's why I was interested to know the aplication; for even a 'lightweight' savage I#d say the castle is the more suited motors, the tekins work much better in the truggies and buggies/ SCTs they are designed for ( 8-9lb tops with relatively small/light tires ).

I have driven Castle 1520, 2200 and Tekin 2000kv in my Maxx's, and all of them performed very well with no problems. What I noticed is that even though the Tekin is sensored, there wasn't that much difference in smootness at low speed, but the Tekin allways ran cooler than the Castle 2200.

But I don't think you will be disappointed with any of the motors. When coming to the Savage I have only ran Castle 2200 in 2 of those. 1 in an original Flux and 1 in the FLM conversion, and both drove very well.

Both systems work very well, and for me it is only price when I buy them, that does the final decision for me.

Thanks for the input guys. Really appreciate your help. After reading this thread, I guess both motors have their own strengths and weaknesses. But in terms of robustness, I think I have to get both of the motors and do the testing.. Thanks again guys!
