Help with ESC setup! - 10.10.2009, 04:45 PM

Just got a RX8 system but the buggy 2050kv version.I'm using this a a X1 CRT on 4s lipo.Car weight in at 4.3kg so its light.

Got a hotwire to setup the ESC.I only bash and don't race right now.On my 5200mah 35c EP Lipo's I get round 20-22min run time on longish grass.

Gearing is 14/62.

Problem now is ESC and lipo's run super cool.Fan on ESC is off most of the time so no problems there.Must I go up one tooth in gearing?

Also give me good starting point to set the ESC for bashing.Values of each will help allot.

Thanks in advance.

LOL, no kidding. It's like saying "Damn, I seem to have too much money".

Seriously, sounds like you have it set up just right. If you are happy with the speed and runtime, just have fun!

He might've forgot to mention he probably has motor heat issues.

Also, I wouldn't exactly call 4.3kg light... for a buggy anyway

*edit* Re-read it; I guess it is just the motor that is buggy.

Sorry forgot to post the motor temps.

After about 10min of runtime its round 60-70deg/C.I have timing on think 5deg and punch control also very low.Lipo's and ESC run round 40-50deg/c..Happy with that but motor is hot!

Just want to see what the other guy's is running setting wise just to compare?

Do the motor temps stabilize at 60-70C? This is a safe motor temp(70C = 158F), but the lipo is getting to be a bit warm at 50C(122F). If this is after 20+ minutes on longish grass as you mentioned initially, then I wouldn't worry about it.

Lipo temps may indicate your gearing is a bit too much for them. I have not heard of EP brand lipos, but you may be pulling them a bit hard. The esc is staying cool due to good design and the fan. Your motor temps are a bit high, but you are running a buggy motor in a truggy. I would gear down 1 tooth and see if anything imroves.

Long grass is not the best thing to run in either, try your setup on dirt or the street and see if temps are any different. You may see a 10deg f difference or more just from getting out of the grass.

Sounds like your system is very close to being just right. I would experiment a bit more. I would not put a larger pinion on though, I can imagine that will just make things worse. 13t pinion would match the factory clutch bell/gearing, and that is generally a good place to start. 1 tooth can make a big difference.

Lipo's is more round 100deg/f and ESC 100-120 depending on outside temp.

Will try a 13t and see what happens.The lipo's is 5200 35c lipo's btw.
