rc8 using losi battery tray - 10.17.2009, 10:09 AM

Anyone try this. I would like to switch over my rc8 to thew losi battery tray. As i broke like 3 rc monster battery trays from crashes. And i like the 3 straps on the losi tray.

If youve broken the RCM trays, dont expect the Losi tray to last any better. If anything you are going down in the durability department by switching to the Losi tray. It tends to crack even in a losi when installed properly.

Only time I ever had an issue with the RCM tray was when I forgot some screws and it came loose. Other than that, if your cracking the RCM trays you must be pretty darn hard on your car. Either that or maybe check your install method. I dont think your gonna find a more durable tray than the RCM anyway. I'm not saying they cant be broken, but after 3 of them I'd start looking at other factors contributing to the problem rather than just the tray.

I can't decide if its more fun
to make it...
or break it...

I love my custom RCM battery trays. Mike made me a couple to my specified dimensions and they fit my batteries like a glove. No way they will let the batteries move or shift. I don't know how you could be breaking them either but if you order the custom ones you can request a thicker sidewall for more strength.

Yea I was thinking of having mike make one. But the true question is has anyone used the losi tray on a rc8. As it is a nice setup. I love mikes trays they are great just looking to go with the losi because I like the design of it. Might just take mine out of my 8ight t and see if it will work somehow. For $11.99 you really can't go wrong

I've used the losi battery tray on my rc8t, both sc8's, and an rc8.....it will work but you gotta do a little bit of cutting and fabrication......if you want pics let me know...bit it can be done...and they are quite durable as well and they fitall my lipos AND have a place to mount your esc......cliffs notes version:
- cut off the bottome plastic spacers and wire hangers but leave the one on the bottom of the front alone
-make a spacer to mount the batt tray onto and then mount the spacer onto the chassis
-i've used the losi tray in 4 non-losi conversions and it works great...all you need are battery straps....or...just use Velcro and some zipties....and make sure you have a drill and screw hole tapping set :)

Where are you buying my trays? I haven't had a newer style tray come back ever, and offer 1/2 price replacement for broken trays(simply return the tray and for 1/2 price I wil replace it) - nobody has ever used the replacement policy twice and very few ever need it at all. If you return a broken tray with a message anything like this one, you would automatically receive a beefier tray as a replacement. There are well over 1000 trays out there and about a dozen have been broken to my knowledge(some of them were dremelled or otherwise modified, which helped cause the breakage).
We also have new trays with the esc location built in(even includes rx8 and TRX MMM holes for securing the esc), as well as custom sizes.

In my case my first one broke the one side right out in a crash so it wasnt your fault someone tboned me and broke the tray at full speed.

The second tray it cracked in the rear from a battery smacking it in a crash.

The third one i had broke around the bottom edge around the whole tray. This is the one that is bothering me. As all i have now it the bottom of it.

But i would love a tray with a mount for the mmm if that is possable.

Where did you get the trays? They sound like older trays to me. Our newer trays have rounded corners (where the floor meets the side walls inside the battery compartment), so they are significantly stronger than the original design(been several months or more with this design) - have not seen any broken trays since this style change. All new custom sizes get this style as well. I have never seen the whole bottom come off, but it is nearly impossible with our latest style. Again, I doubt any of your trays were the newer design, based on your description of the breakage.
The tray with the esc shelf on the rear is listed as an option now. :)

It has been a few months since Aldo ordered trays - all the new ones are as I described above. You can order direct or have Al order - FYI - I will be gone all next week for IHobby and won't be back until 10/29, so any custom tray size will need to be ordered before Monday or it won't get done until I return. :)
