Does anyone know the latest on Savage upgrade diffs? Mine just started clicking and I'm waiting for the new ones. I tried to underpower my truck with a 1512 2.5d on 5s but I guess it was still too much.

I am pretty sure you can use the HPI lightning diff in your diff case. You can purchase the lightning hardened diff as a complete unit, or get the gears and build them yourself. The hardened gears are pretty much indestructable. Either way they are pretty strong and reliable. I have seen them here in the RCM store, or you can get them from A-Main, or even Tower hobby.

You say you have the bulletproof diffs on the way? I'd just wait for them, or buy nitro diffs and shim them one shim tighter. Worked for me, but HPI is sending me the bulletproof diffs so we will see how they work.

What do you mean by the latest? They have been out for a while now. I've got a set that are being installed now, Freezebyte has some installed....what did you want to know? They look beefy, the gear ratio is lower - so you need to replace both front and rear.
And just an FYI, from my experience, be prepared to by some extra diff cups...those crummy soft phillips screws dont want to come out without stripping.

Haven't had issue with phillips stripping with high quality tools, but on my stock diffs set there was so much torque at one point it actually broke two of the screws inside the diff cup.

I thought I heard that tougher bulkheads are necessary to prevent flex and there was a complete set coming out from HPI. Maybe I was dreaming....?

Might be....dunno. The flux bulks are a composite, as compared to the plastic on the X and SS, but I have no idea if they are stiffer or not - that's why I went with the FLM's.

Eh? I've had no issues with the bulkheads.

Well, you didn't actually have any problems with your diff's either!

Any plastic bulkhead, and some aluminum ones, will flex. If that flex occurs under power, one could potentially damage the gears. The design of the savage bulkhead itself is quite rigid, so IMHO, flex is probably low on the potential list of problems.
