Xbox 360 Elite question

So assuming that my son makes honor roll my wife and I will be paying for half of an XBox 360 Elite that he wants...

How does it hook to the TV? RCA plugs like the Wii? Regular cable TV coax connector?

Can it connect to a wireless router with out buying anything extra, like the Wii? I assume that it can be wired via the ethernet port?

Can the play time per day be limited with parental controls?

Anything else I need to know?

The elite will plug in via Component *red, blue, green plug* or HDMI included in the box. You can connect it via the composite *yellow plug* but you will not be able to have HD resolution on the composite, unless your TV is not HD compatible then the point is mute.

You can set time and parent restrictions on games with the 360 with certain ratings and lock them down with a password. It has a built in wired ethernet that you can plug into your router at home. A wireless adapter much be purchased seperately and its around $100

Mine came with a plug that did rca. You can get an adapter for coax, and I also have a cable that will switch between hd and regular rca. Pretty sure it will come with the rca jack style a/v cable.

From what I can tell you need a "N" type wireless router to work the xbox 360 wireless. I would have to look on the back of the unit to see if it has a ethernet jack.

I would say that the threat of beating would work fine to limit his gameplay!

Get GTA4, a bit violent, but you should enjoy it. Maybe keep it away from him!

Uh the "N" wireless adapter hasn't come out yet for the 360. ALL 360's have a 10/100mbit ethernet jack

He wants to use our older TV that is down in the basement. It is pretty big but only has a coax input.

Our 19 inch flat screen in the bedroom has RCA inputs but I don't want to give that up...

Guess he will have to buy an adapter.

I have a long ethernet cable that will reach the router. I'll just have to drill a small hole in his floor to feed in down into the basement.

Yes, so a coaxial RF adapter will be needed then. Its gonna be kinda tough to find one, as they arn't popular anymore and his picture quality is gonna be poor. http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/Prod...spx?sku=802186

Wired is the preferred method as it gives the best throughput and reduce latency then even the best wireless.

Definitely use the wired ethernet if you can. The games play so much better with the faster connection. Are you sure the old TV doesn't have the Red/White/Yellow RCA plugs on it somewhere? I thought all TV's had those...

believe it or not, my g/f has a tv that doesn't have rca... and it doesn't have a coax hookup either!! it makes a nice paperweight.... lol.

Is so we are in good shape. I found some kind of adapter that converts RCAs and S video to coax / S video. Wegot it to connect a portable DVD player to the TV.

The R/G/B is only for HD video. The R/W/Y are L/R audio and LD video.

If he makes Honor Roll, get him a PS3 unless his own choice is the 360. ( I bet some of the members are like, "Oh boy here we go again .")
