Kinda bored looking for new project....suggestions very welcome - 11.15.2009, 12:36 PM

So I have had mostly MMM truggy and buggy conversions. The last week looking at some of the more hardcore builds on here for Monster trucks I now have some interest in building one. I just want a big beefy moster truck with some cool parts. Things I would like

1. Diffs that dont need rebuilding and new gears after every other run
2. Keep the roller Under $600...I am a patient ebay fanatic. lol
3. 40 mph gearing, prob like 5s and 6s on the MMM
4. I love the way aluminum looks but not the way it bends...i want to keep the bling factor to a minimum. I want a super abusable (word?lol) rig!!
5. overall drive train that will hold up...diffs, axles, ect ect

I was looking at up grading a savage but have no knowledge of consistency. I just dont wat a rig that I have to dump a grand into maintenance parts and alwys on the rebuild bench in parts. I see HPI now has the bulletproof diffs and that peaked my interest. I am not to keen on the two lipo set-up.

After tearing down my mini revo a few times, and after reassembly for the last time I am selling it to start the fund for this. I have to say it has left a bad taste in my mouth for the traxx-ass design element. I dunno how the big brother is....

Anyway just looking for some feedback as my research continues on my new path. Especially you guys that have built the narly MT builds on here....you know if you had to start a new one this "time I would..."

Looks like you are trying to do about the same truck I am.

I have a Savage Flux, and now have somewhere around 300+ into hop ups on it. Not that all of them were needed, but IMHO, they were were a definite improvement for my style of bashing. If I were you, I would definitley consider a Savage, especially if you can find an XL roller for a decent price (it has the extended chassis).

I also just picked up a LST roller for about 80 bucks. Just saw another one on Craigslist yesterday for that same price. Once you upgrade the diffs on the LST, they are supposed to be good to go.
I'm putting this one together with the intent to possibly sell it to my brother in law if it proves to be a "winner". I'm considering trying to put a Flux Tranny in it - but I can seem to win a tranny at a decent price on e-bay. The sellers there are defintley shelling - The items always sell for the same price (40 to 43 bucks), and the next day, they list a new one for sale.
I'll probably have to have Mike build some center shafts for it with that tranny.

Losi 8T 1.0, Savage Flux - XL style, LST XXL, Muggy, 3.3 E-Revo Conversion and sitting outside 425hp, 831 Tq Dodge Ram Turbo Diesel. It SMOKES

Lots of MT to be looked at.. 4wd or 2wd?.. its all wat u prefer man.. i have a Stampede which is completely beatable.. i've had a emaxx which i spent more time replacing parts then driving but i still like them.. if u want to beat your truck get a pede.. i haven't drove a flux but heard nothing bad about them!

BL Pede, Integy aluminum steering linkages, aluminum shock caps, RPM camber links.

Hmmm....nothing but bad on the flux?? I was really leaning towards this rig too. Well this is the kind of discussion I want to explore, please back these claims with more information.

As far as traxxas. The stampede is not the quality of rig I am investigating. I do wish to go 4wd as well. I was figuring with the diff upgrade the Savage would be adequate/good platform.

I have heard the LST is a better basher than the savage, however I own a savage flux and it takes abuse and asks for more! I am not sure if you are looking for a complete truck if you can find a good price, or a roller to build your own brushless system? Either way, for the flux you can pick up an extended chassis from either FLM, 1offrc or TCS crawlers is supposed to be coming out with one soon. Just a few ideas.

i have owned both a savage ss converted to brushless and a lst2 converted to brushless

i can say this dive them both and the savage looks like a toy, the lst is bigger, stronger and handles abuse much better

dont buy an lst, find an lst2 or an xxl, you will just be waisting money upgradeing it to an lst2
