BK 7018 toasted? - 03.06.2006, 09:21 PM

I've been a proud owner of a BK 7018 with a Nemesis 8s motor for about a year now. Has ran great ever since I got it(mike helped me pick it out back when i got it), but I think it finally bit the dust. I've been running it in my rustler with cell counts varying from 6-14 cells, managed to get BL motors banned at my local track last season, and clocked it at 60+ but this weekend I ran into some problems.

I was running 12 GP3300's in a parking lot, the usual with modest gearing, my rustler has some alu parts, but just enough for strength without making it a tank. I'd say about halfway through the run, its cruising at maybe ~40MPH when it glitches and smoke literally started pouring out of the body of the car, I thought it was on fire. I ran over, ripped off the body and touch the ESC...OUCH....its toasted. After bringing it home and cutting off the shrink wrap, it looks like all the chips under the heatsink got burnt to a crisp and a resistor on the back end got blown off the board. The setup I was running was nothing out of the ordinary for the vehicle and i've NEVER had heat problems with the setup.....any ideas? The ESC still opperates, but it heats up VERY hot and turns itself off in about 10-15 seconds. Is it done for good?

I'm considering an MGM 80amp for a replacement if its impossible for a repair, I dont run more than 12 cells anymore. The MGM's work fine with a reciever pack right? I prefer a reciever pack to keep the nose down. Any input is appreciated, I can take pics later on in the week when I get some time.

it sounds like the fets are fried thus it makes it heat up when amped so it thermals. the mgm 80 is a good replacement for sure.

I've ran it at 14 cells without issues in the past, full runs.

I'm gonna be getting the mgm80 next paycheck. :028: MGM's run fine with a reciever pack, right?
