Well it is not new, but it is new to me!

Thats right, a Magnum Research Desert eagle in 44 Magnum!

Always wanted one, found a good deal on a very lightly used example and snapped it up. I also found a complete factory 357 magnum conversion as well, so I can shoot both calibers. Funny thing was I was going to purchase a used Smith and Wesson 629 44 mag revolver but the prices are through the roof, paid $100 or more less for this Desert Eagle...

Threw in a pic of it with a lighter, for size comparisons (this sucker is big, weighs more than 4lbs loaded...)

Also here is a shot of a std 9mm round next to the 44 mag... Go big or stay home!

I am having issues finding a suitable ankle holster though...

And just so people do not get the wrong idea about me (never happens, I promise...)

I only target shoot, and collect. I do not hunt (no time or desire, I do like eating wild game though!) and I do not carry a gun (need to do the concealed carry class). Just another hobby, and I like the weird and wonderful mechanical designs that various guns have! Plus guns generally go up in price, so it is a bit of an investment.

Very nice! I was going to get one in .50 AE but heard they jam easily if they get dirty. I keep my guns very clean but I don't like the idea of paying $1200 for a gun that jams up easily.

Ah, I got my very first pistol, last year at this time. A brand spanking new Spingfield XDm 9mm with 2 free extra magazines! I don't shoot it much as I don't feel like blowing $20 for ammo at Wal-mart often, but its alot of fun. If 19 9mm rounds doesn't kill someone, I dont' see what will :P

Nice James....my father in law collects guns...has 50+ guns..specifically revolvers w/a certain type of frame circa 1850-1950. The last one he needed in his collection cost him a mere $ 5,000-. He said that it was the first one he had seen for sale in 15 years of looking

Only smaller down the barrel, the rest of the gun is identical. The 50 cal uses a cartridge that has the same base dimension of the 44 mag cartridge, only the case is large in diameter so it can hold the larger bullet and more powder. I would have got a 50 but the ammo is EXPENSIVE and not much choice as the DE has to use jacketed ammo (due to potential lead fowling with cast bullets). 44 mag is fairly cheap and lots of selection.

I do not see why they would jam... After stripping the gun down the design is fairly simple and seems robust. I read alot about them and the only jam issues seem to be with people using promag replacement magazines. Other wise it seems well liked by pretty much everyone who has one.

The XD is a good design, and Croatian made (they seem to make a nice gun from what I have seen). As far as the current crop of polymer frame pistols go it seems like a good deal. I prefer the M series of the XD, but that is just my preference with the grip shape. I have crooked fingers on the right hand and that makes some grip styles feel a bit "weird" to me. I can't shoot a beretta 92 for that reason, but I can tear it up with a 1911 or high power!

What style was it? One of the older Mark I guns with the small selector? Mine is a Mark 7 (forgot the roman numerals that correspond). Have a look on gunbroker, plenty of DE pistols to choose from there. I have seen a nice stainless frame black slide 44 on there, going for 800 (that is what I paid for this one).

I even saw a Mark 19 with both 44 and 50 barrels going for 1300... damn good deal there. I paid about that for this 44 and the 357 conversion. From what I have read the gun is very sweet shooting with 357, much nicer than a revolver, and it holds 10 rounds too.

Nice find I always liked the way they looked but never knew anyone that had one that could get through a full mag without it jamming. When they first came out my nextdoor neighbor bought the .357 and we ended up having some really hot loads from a reloader and it worked pretty well then. I think they are dead sexy!

You do have to play with ammo selection a bit, lighter loads will have some issues. I plan on trying everything I can find. If some of the ammo does not work I can give it to my mom, she has a pair of 629 stainless revolvers...

Same as yours Mark VII, but polished. My grandfather had one as well back in Brasil, but his was gold plated. I like the new one, .50 caliber should stop any mortal human.

MMM, polished. Bet it was a looker! I like polished stuff, but my budget was around what I paid...

Heres a little guy that I picked up recently:

Only 357, but it is ported and is a limited run gun so it may be worth something eventually. I also got a smith 38 special the same day, paid 250 for it and come to find out it is worth about 750!!! I might sell it, but I kind of like it. Polished nickel finish on it, and it was made in the late 50s early 60s, model 15-1.

Hmm, I'll have to do some more research on them if the jamming isn't really an issue. I'd like to have one (more as a collector/occasional use than anything). The only handgun I have right now is an XDm .40, excellent gun but I'd like at least 1-2 more handguns.
