Can the MMP handle a 6-Pole motor? - 04.12.2010, 05:32 PM

Hey guys,
the question is in the title: Can the Mamba Max Pro handle a 6 pole BL motor?

I'm asking here, because I didn't get an answer to my last mail to the support, and the answer to the mail before that took weeks...

Cheers,
Jo

It would depend mainly on the RPM limit of the MMP, which I can't seem to find...

For example-

If the limit is 210,000 rpm with a 2-pole motor, then a 4-pole motor can be operated up to 105,000 rpm, and a 6-pole can be operated up to 70,000 rpm. Each motor has a mechanical limit, so make sure you don't exceed that. Yes, current draw plays a role as well, but a higher pole motor doesn't draw "more" current per say, just closer to DC current.

It would be a Tenshock 2220/6:
5000 rpm/V; Ri 0,004; Max. 12V; Max. 120A
6 pole
Length: 40 mm
Diameter: 38 mm
Diameter Shaft: 5 mm
Weight: 170 g
Max. Power: 1000 W

I would like to use it on 2S in a SCRT10.
So the question remains, can the mmp handle that kind of power in specific and that kind of motor (6-pole that is) in general?

Well, the motor will never use that much power on 2s and I don't think you'll be near the rpm limit either.

Be careful to use Tenshock multipole motors. I was trying to drive a Tenshock 2230 with a HobbyWing Seaking 180A(same hardware as Ezrun 150A), it cogs badly when my finger pulls just half trigger. This ESC drives CC Neu 1515 2200KV and Medusa 36-80-1600KV(both are 4 pole) perfectly. Increasing timing advance can delay the cog to 2/3 throttle but never completely went away.

....What a Blue Sky....

Is this a problem with the tenshock or with 6-pole on the mmp in general?

You will have to find the best timing advance, probably between 15 and 20.

But will it be possible to at least nearly eliminate cogging?

If you find the best timing, yes. Do some tries at home at slow speeds, with a pc nearby to connect the link each times ^^

I've driven a TS 2240/10 with a mmpro on 6s and it only cogged once at half throttle. After that it never cogged again... I've only driven it 2 or three times though. I believe I didn't even adjust the timing.
