looking for new cheap motor for my truggy

Hi,
I have XT8 Truggy with MMM ESC running on 4S
My hobbywing motor 3674SL just died after 4 month of use. I used it alot on the track for many hours almost on a weekly basis. It was very fast and smooth. It always run hot around 170F. On the last run it over temp fast on the 1st pack and just died.

I'm looking for a new and cheap motor, the 3674 is not available anymore.
Instead hobbywing have new 2000kv motor called HobbyWing 4274.

With that cost I can add few $$ and get the castle 2200kv motor.

I'm not looking to be super fast, I just like to have fun at the track w/o worry for over temp ( our country is hot)

I have this motor on my xray buggy and its running really cool and fast, not sure how it will be on the Truggy.

I already tested the MMM with novak HV motor and I now it can work well.

Well you have a great Truggy and a MMM.Save your money and get a great motor as well.The cheap motors run hot.Get a Castle 2200 motor and all will be great plus it will last alot longer saving money in the longrun.The efficiency of a motor determines its quality. Higher efficiency means better design and high quality components. The higher the efficiency of the motor the more power it can produce before it overheats.

I currently have the 1515 2200kv in my mbx5T and it flies. no worries on tems either....on 5s it is silly fast

Castle 2200 !!

I have got this motor in my Savage, it powerful and cheap AND it handles 4S pretty good. But i tested this motor in my Carson Specter buggy and it was missle. (Too fast for me :P )

It does better on 4s than 5s, I'll say that much for sure

Might be worth a punt at $30, but if it doesnt work out, just save up for a castleneu 2200kv- ~$140 new ( from Mike here ), or used will be a bit cheaper.

If I were looking for a "real" motor, then 4 pole would be the way to go.

2 pole motors tend to run hotter, make less power and live a much shorter life.

Several 4 pole motors come to mind that I've been considering:

1. Castle Neu - 2200kv
2. Savage Flux - 2200kv (Same as #1, but has more mounting holes)
3. Tekin T8 - 2250kv - 4 pole sensored, only one of it's kind on the market
4. Losi Xcelorin - 2100kv

Few updates:
Won a Castle 2200 motor on eBAY, it will take a week or two to arrive.
As a temporary solution I installed the $30 KD36 motor on my Truggy.
I was very surprise from the performance. It has good speed and torque. avg temp were around 130F.
This is great option as a backup motor.
Here are few pictures of my Truggy with the KD36 motor, I ran it all they long with a friend that have LOSI 8 with EZRUN system.

Nice motor choice. I have a Neu-Castle 2200kV also...very stout motor. I will say though that the new Hobbywing motors are 4-pole motors. I have their new 4168SL 2250kV motor and it is very nice looking and performs very well. Runs cool and similar to other 4-pole motors I've run (Neu-Castle and Medusa). It has a bit less resistance when turning by hand compared to both Neu-Castle and Medusa. I think HW stepped up with their new motors, but that puts them closer in price to their more established and well-known competitors (Neu-Castle and Tekin).
Nice to know the KD-9XL runs well in the truggy. I was looking at that for a backup motor also. I've had KD motors before (not the 9XL though). One word of advice is put some glue on the endbell as it may pop off if you don't.

I can vouch for the KD 9XL as well, in the Revo on 4s A123 it hasn't gone over 140f yet.

The Castle 2200kV arrived; I tested it today for the 1st time.
Its very powerful and smooth, I was able to squeeze 20 min from my 5000mA 4S pack so on top of all its very efficient.
Average motor temp was 120F (while the temp on the track was 70F).
