Motor Mount Options for Monster XT8 Conversion - 08.02.2011, 11:50 AM

The Monster XT8 conversion has been a solid performer for awhile now. I had been told by a few pro's who are racing ebuggy that the common, flat, two screw motor mounts are weak and flex too much. They are all using the elite RC/Xray/Losi sliding mount.

I thought nothing of it until I needed to find out why my truggy had a weird sound coming from the drive train. It turned out that the upper motor mount screw bent and the mesh was slightly angled. I also noticed that the motor had slapped the chassis a few times by the marks and slight dent in the can.

Are there any plans by Mike to make a slide type mount? Does anyone know if these mounts would fit the full Monster XT8 conversion?

Funny that you mention motor mount issues. Several of my friends have bent Mike's mounts....not so severe as to ruin anything..just enough to cause us to be concerned. It seems that with say a 1515 size motor in a truggy all is well with the mount. If you add say a 1520, it will be much easier to bend due to the added length and weight of the motor. My friend did just this...added a 1520 to his Xray truggy and while racing, the motor mount bent. Now, he could not prove100% that the motor was the sole reason for the mount bending...however, he mentioned to me that he wished that the mount was 2mm thicker to ensure even greater strength.

Now, I run a 1520 in my mbx5t and have had no issues with the mount. The slide mounts are nice as my friend has one...they are very robust.

Just rambling on

1. MBX-6 T8 1900KV, RX8 ON 4S
2. MBX-5T 1520, MMM ON 5S
3. MBX-5 ONROAD CONVERSION 1515, MMM ON 5S
4. MRX-3 ON ROAD CONVERSION 1512, MMM ON 6S
5. TEN T 2650 T8, MMP ON 3S

Yeah, I love the sliding mount on my Xray 808e. I didn't mention that earlier, but it works great and makes it so much easier to adjust the motor. My friend has an elite RC mount that he is giving me, hopefully soon. I will let you know if it matches up. Given the custom fit of the Monster chassis with the custom motor mount, it probably won't.

If anyone else can chime in with some more info, please do.
