Revo conversion - 05.12.2010, 12:29 PM

So I'm finally converting my revo with my 1515 3D and have a few questions before I finish.I'll mainly run 5s for now with a wide ratio tranny locked in second.what kind of gearing would I need for 40mph? I realize the 1515 3D I'm using is capable of much more but I'm looking for longevity of the the drivetrain and general bashing. And when my skills get better with a truck this fast I'll jump up to 6s and re gear appropriately.thanks--josh

I literally just found the gearing calculator, and I have a question, the only batts I have right now are some rc-monster 2500mah 5s that I plan to run as a 5000mah pack but I plan to buy some 4s and 6s also. With a wide ratio 2nd gear and a stock 38 tooth spur if I ran a 22 tooth pinion I get a nice medium of about 44mph on 5s,50mph on 6s and 34mph on 4s,would it be ok to run this way,or will I have to regear for every set of batterys I run to keep temps and current draw down?--Josh

I would not bother with 4s. Even 5s is a bit slow on motor speed. Stick with 6s and gear for 45mph. You will be happy. Trying to setup a vehicle to use different voltage is a waste of time. As far as running temps, set it up as advised and run it while checking your temps with a temp gun. If you do not have a temp gun buy one.

6s will put you right at 30k motor rpms under load.

30C would be great. 25C would get the job done as well.

So il probably be getting a Hyperion 606i,do I need the balancing version? I'll be doing 2s for my sc18 and 5s and 6s for my revo,it's 50$ more and I didn't know if I'll need that option. Also, what power supply should I get for it?--Josh

Balancing is a must, for any charger or lipo battery. Personally I'd skip the 606I and go for the 720I its only $30 more than the 606I on RC-monster. You'll be able to charge the packs faster as the 606I is limited to a 50w output. On a 6s 5000 pack you'd charge it at 5 amps for 1C charging. With only 50W output availible on the 606I the max it can push is 2.25 amps making charge time twice as long while running the charger at its max.

As far as a power supply, 10amps would be the minimum. 15 amps would be better as you wouldn't be pushing the power supply as hard and could charge at over 1c if the batteries were capable of it. BrianG's speed calc page has a section about chargers + power supplies and matching them up to the batteries you intend to charge. Its worth a look.

Btw, my setup is a 615I (720I is a newer version of it) with a Competition Electronics 23amp powersupply. I love the charger and the built in balancing. Set it up, plug it in, and go, no worries. The powersuplly is overkill as I only charge 5s 6000mah at 1C, but I got a screaming deal on it and couldn't pass it up.
