Lipo runs hot why?

I was racing today at my local track with a new 4s 4100mah@30c for a mins race my batt was flat till 3v per cell.

And it was hot about 60degree to 65degree no bloating or dead cells.

I geared my truck at 38-40mph.

Could it be the batt cant handle the setup?

This is the first time my Lipo ran so hot.

Btw I was using a 2000kv motor from hw with ezrun 150esc.

Hot lipo = either overgeared or yep, the lipo cant handle the strain.

I'd say to either gear down a bit, or try a more powerful lipo; something like ~4500mah and 35c should be fine I reckon. How many cycles do you have on that lipo/ age?

You could also try raising the LVC a little- 3.2v-3.4v per cell shouldnt shorten runtime very much, but it could help the lipo overheating at the very end of its discharge cycle.

The Lipo is less than 10 cycle but I suspect it's a lousy Lipo. Even my 6s 3300 can do better.

Celcius? If so, it is too hot indeed. It should be able to run much much cooler than a 6S x 3300 in the exact same set-up since it'll make far less power and is more battery capacity. I'm curious as to how long the run was and without that info or the actual battery specifics my first guess is that it is a cheap genric e-bay type pack.

My 1350kv neu failed so I can't use my 6s 3300 batt anymore. So I use 4s 4000mah for my 2000kv motor.

My us$150 pack batt sucks that y ran so hot

is that pack a neu pack?

this is why i love hobbycity packs. they are dirt cheap and they are very good packs, even compared to the more expensive US packs.


edit: the turnigy packs are the best ones. they have more power than the flightmax and rhino packs. get some turnigy 40c packs and will be set.

No it's not neu, I wish it was. I was using zippy till now the waiting time takes 1-2mnths.

I stop ordering zippy. I m now trying Acorn racing batteries. Very small n light for 4s it's shorter than a 7.4v.

I forgot what someone said before.
eg.
Batt, Motor hot = overgeared
motor hot, esc & batts cool = undergeared.

I'd raise the LVC to 3.2v per cell. Below that, it seems the battery works MUCH harder to supply current and subsequently runs significantly hotter.

so what is the brand of the stuggling pack?

if you like the zippy packs, you are going to love the turnigy packs. they are even more powerful and last longer.

Your heating problem is two fold:

* you ran the cells to the cut off
* the cut off was set at 3V

3v for a lipo is as good as dead - when they are this low the internal resistance is very high and amp draws rise because voltage is down , add that extra burst of heat to that already in the pack and you have an - you get the performance you pay for explanation.

Either set the cutoff at 3.4v or run it to a time limit.

AND ThunderPower 30/60C cells against zippy and rhino etc - they are slightly more expensive give much more capacity and in the second half of the pack have much better voltage - the 45/90's are the bells cell around at the moment.
